Wednesday Mike Tomlin joined Johnny D and The 757 Club of 1490 AM the Game in Virginia Beach for a short interview and Tomlin danced around the question if the Steelers had interest in Tiki Barber and Plaxico Burress. Tomlin said, "I don’t know the status of those two guys and I don't worry about what's said in the media in terms of potential free agents. That's not my bag, man. This is slow sports time, so people are gonna say whatever it is they’re gonna say." You can listed to the interview below at the 23:30 mark. CBSSports.com Senior Writer Pete Prisco named Steelers safety Troy Polamalu the league's most-overrated player on Thursday so I think it deserves a rebuttal by breaking down the post of Prisco. Prisco states that the Packers exposed Polamalu in the Super Bowl and says he isn't great in coverage. As far as the Super Bowl goes, Polamalu was thrown at just twice according to the play charting on Pro Football Focus and yes both passes were caught with one going for a touchdown. The fault of the touchdown can be disputed though and even Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau said just this week Read more [...]
It has just been announced that Steelers strong safety Troy Polamalu has been named the AP NFL Defensive Player Of The Year. Polamalu played in 14 games this year for the Steelers where he recorded 63 total tackles. He also lead the team with 7 interceptions and chipped in 1 sack that happened to result in a fumble against the Baltimore Ravens back in week 13. The sack fumble resulted in the game winning touchdown for the Steelers and allowed the Steelers to take sole possession of the AFC North. Polamalu intercepted Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer, and former USC teammate, twice just one Read more [...]
Here is a transcript of the Baltimore media conference call with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on Tuesday. Safety Troy Polamalu was on the Rich Eisen podcast Tuesday and the interview starts at the 44:00 minute mark. Several interviews from the locker room on Tuesday are up on Steelers.com featuring Ben Roethlisberger, Ryan Clark, Rashard Mendenhall, Mike Wallace, Heath Miller and Hines Ward. The Steelers have not had great overall success as a whole running the ball on the Baltimore Ravens this year, but have managed to split the 2 games against them this season. In the two games this season, the Steelers have averaged just 2.79 yards per carry this season on 48 carries by a running back, as shown in the table below. All of the limited success the Steelers have had on the ground against the Ravens has come by running to the right. Ed Bouchette has a great article on the young triple receiving threat of Mike Wallace, Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown. Scott Brown blogged about how Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor is making a strong case for a Pro Bowl invite. Along the same topic, Dale Lolley wrote about how the Steelers have done good over the years keeping Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco in check when they have faced him. The Ravens might of helped quarterback Ben Roethlisberger out by breaking his nose early. He probably forgot how bad his foot hurt. He looked full of adrenaline tonight and sailed several throws he normally makes. In crunch time though, he used the Houdini to get rid of the ball and avoid a sack. How big was that hard count on 4th down? Props to Isaac Redman for finding a way to get into the endzone. He does not get many snaps on the field, but made a huge contribution. Broke through several tackles. The line continues to suffer injuries and as a whole looked bad in both run blocking and Read more [...]
This game might be more important to the Steelers than it is the Ravens because a loss by the Steelers almost assures them not winning the AFC North division. If the Ravens lose, they are just one game back, where as if the Steelers lose, they are two back on head-to-head tie breakers The Steelers lost in week 4 on a last minute touchdown by wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh and the Steelers offense blew a chance to put the Ravens away late bin the game by committing crucial penalties and failing to convert just one more first down to run out the clock. This will be a measuring stick for the Steelers Read more [...]
Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians says they need to run the ball better, but not necessarily more. Arians goes on to say he thinks it is the quality of the runs more than the quantity that worries him. This ought to get the blood pressure up of Steeler Nation on Thursday. Quarterback Dennis Dixon was back in Eugene, Oregon and gave KEZI an interview. Dixon says he is working on becoming more vocal and working on his leadership skills. He also said he expects head coach Mike Tomlin to name a starter after the first pre-season game. First round draft pick Maurkice Pouncey denied on Read more [...]
Steelers defensive line coach John Mitchell says he feels great about the defensive line going into camp. Starters Aaron Smith, Casey Hampton and Brett Keisel are all healthy and in great shape while Ziggy Hood should be able to contribute more this year as he is playing with better pad level, using his hands better and staying on his feet more this offseason. Mitchell hopes to rotate in Hood, Nick Eason and Chris Hoke to keep the line fresher with no drop offs this season. Steelers.com has part 2 up of the "Ask The Steelers" segment with rookie running back Jonathan Dwyer. The supplemental Read more [...]

The Ravens secondary limps in also without cornerback Lardarius Webb, who has been lost for the season. Read more [...]
Below are seven matchups or things to look for on Sunday as the Steelers take on the Baltimore Ravens. Silverback And The Blindside - James Harrison showed up on the Friday injury report as questionable with a bicep injury, but all signs still point to him playing. Harrison very well could be lining up against Ravens rookie Michael Oher, who looks to line up at left offensive tackle for the third consecutive game in place of the injured Jared Gaither. Oher will be in charge of protecting the blindside of Joe Flacco. Harrison has 43 tackles, six sacks and four forced fumbles in the past six meetings Read more [...]
