The Steelers 2011 training camp has begun in Latrobe and here is a quick recap of what happened today in case you missed anything.
The day started with the official announcement that both tackle Max Starks and wide receiver Antwaan Randle El were being released. The surprising Starks news broke last night and the not surprising news on Randle El came this morning.
Art Rooney II joined the DVE morning show to discuss the release of Starks and also said he did not see either James Harrison or Hines Ward missing any playing time due to their recent incidents both were involved in. Rooney also

ESPN reporter Rachel Nichols is reporting via Twitter that she talked to Steelers president Art Rooney II today about linebacker James Harrison and that Rooney said that any disciplinary action the team takes will be handled internally and it will not result in any suspensions or disruption of Harrison's on-field activities.
Rooney told Nichols that he has talked to Harrison already about the comments he made that recently appeared in the August issue of Men's Journal. Harrison has since issued an apology type statement to clarify the remarks he made in the interview and many of his teammates

ESPN reporter Chris Mortensen reports that it appears likely that wide receiver Plaxico Burress will meet with both the Giants and the Steelers later this week according to team and league sources.
Burress reportedly will have dinner with Giants head coach Tom Coughlin on Friday night and the plans are for Burress to then fly to Pittsburgh to meet with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.
It is believed that Burress is seeking a two-year $10 million contract, according to reports, after he served a two-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to weapons charges. Burress is represented by super

Maurkice Pouncey and twin brother Mike Pouncey were all over ESPN on Tuesday and you can watch one of the interviews below with them and listen to the radio interview on the Scott Van Pelt Show. Maurkice thinks the team will get past the off field incidents quickly.

ESPN reporter Adam Schefter is reporting via Twitter that Steelers linebacker James Harrison has talked to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger today to explain his comments in the upcoming issue of Men’s Journal. Schefter cites that former Steelers running back Merril Hoge, a close confidant of Roethlisberger's, told him that the phone call took place and that Harrison claimed that the article writer, Paul Solotaroff, twisted many of his comments and that it was not the intention of Harrison to criticize Roethlisberger. In addition, Roethlisberger reportedly told Hoge that he is taking Harrison at

Men's Journal contributing editor Paul Solotaroff joined ESPN via phone this morning to talk about his interview with Steelers linebacker James Harrison that is the buzz of the football world today. You will see in the video below that Solotaroff does a great job of being elusive and does not give away much of the story. The biggest comments he makes is that in his opinion Harrison is better than anyone else he has met in his 22 years of reporting at channeling his rage and using it for nitrous fuel. He also thinks he has every right to be enraged about what NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell did to

Steelers linebacker James Harrison will discuss his recent comments he made in Men's Journal magazine about NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, fellow teammates and other current and former players on SportsCenter this evening.
Jason Romano, the Senior Talent Producer for ESPN, reported via Twitter a short time ago that he had confirmed a live interview with Harrison for 6:05 eastern time this evening on World Wide Leader in Sports.
Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported this morning that Harrison’s agent, Bill Parise, tried to downplay the severity of the comments this morning

The latest trade rumors on Friday came from ESPN reporter Sal Paolantonio who stated today on Sirius NFL Radio that the Philadelphia Eagles are no longer interested trading quarterback Kevin Kolb for 2012 draft picks, but instead now want a player who can help them win games now. The Eagles are needing a cornerback, but may not be willing to get involved in the feeding frenzy for Oakland Raiders free agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. There is speculation for the last few days that the Eagles might covet Arizona Cardinals cornerback Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie to play opposite Asante Samuel and that

Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown has been busy keeping in shape during the lockout by working out with Chad Ochocinco, Donte Stallworth and Plaxico Burress down in Miami and getting passes thrown to him by former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor. Pryor is gearing up in hopes he will be selected in the upcoming supplemental draft.
Pryor is also the latest to work out at USF with ESPN analyst Jon Gruden and threw passes to Bulls players this past Monday with the cameras rolling. Pryor’s work with Gruden will be the focus of the upcoming episode of Gruden’s QB Camp that will be airing

ESPN reporter Adam Schefter reported earlier today that unsigned players with four or more accrued seasons are expected to become unrestricted free agents in the next collective bargaining agreement. If that indeed is the case, tackle Willie Colon, tight end Matt Spaeth, cornerback William Gay and punter Daniel Sepulveda will all likely be considered unrestricted free agents.
The Steelers tendered all four players prior to the lockout starting just in case the 2010 free agency rules would be used again in 2011. Colon has 5 years accrued service and missed out on free agency last year because

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is playing host to a free two-day camp yesterday and today for boys and girls ages 7-14 at Brashear High School. The camp is funded by the corporate sponsors, who underwrite the entire camp.
Pro Football Focus has the pass blocking efficiency numbers up now for the tight ends and the running backs and I found it surprising that the Ravens Ray Rice and the Vikings Adrian Peterson finished the lowest of the backs with enough snaps to qualify. Rashard Mendenhall did not have enough pass block attempts to qualify, but his numbers equate to a 10.11 using their formula

Yesterday I posted about the Pro Football Focus PBE rating in relation to the Steelers offensive line and this morning, PFF has the 3 year rating up for all three positions on the line. Leading the way at tackle is Willie Colon even though he missed all of 2010.
The ESPN power rankings has now moved to the left tackle position and to no surprise a Steelers tackle from last year did not make the list. Joe Thomas edged out Jake Long by 1 point after the bloggers ranking.
The latest "Where Are They Now" segment by Teresa Varley is up on Steelers.com and this time she caught up with former Steelers

ESPN North blogger James Walker did a team-by-team look at the most underrated players in the division and listed defensive end Brett Keisel as his Steelers choice and that is not a bad selection at all in my opinion.
Mike Florio attempted to do the Steelers team checklist and missed the mark on quite a few things including bringing back Plaxico Burress and letting Ike Taylor walk. Both are incredibly stupid notions in my opinion coming from a guy who proclaims to be a long time fan of the Steelers..
Former Steelers tackle Jon Kolb reminisced about the Steelers championship teams of 1970's

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin sat down for an exclusive interview with Bob Pompeani to talk about Rashard Mendenhall and his controversial tweet, Hines Ward on Dancing with the Stars and the potential conspiracy theory that the NFL is targeting the Steelers with the recent rule changes.
Steelers free safety Ryan Clark had his weekly Tuesday radio interview with 93.7 The Fan yesterday and talked about his return to Twitter, the release of Plaxico Burress from prison and his current intentions to workout with the LSU players as Clark is back in Louisiana currently.

Steelers free agent cornerback Ike Taylor was in Buford, Ga on Wednesday and Thursday to take part in a seven-on-seven workout against several players from different NFL teams at a local high school football field. Taylor says Pittsburgh is like home to him and seems to have softened the posture he had last week on Jim Rome is Burning.
The contrarian Ron Cook takes issue with the rule change opinion of Steelers linebacker James Harrison and thinks he is overreacting. Harrison was on ESPN NFL Live on Thursday for an interview as well.
