On Saturday, day 3 of training camp started off quickly again as Plaxico Burress was at Latrobe to visit with Mike Tomlin, Kevin Colbert, Omar Kahn and spend some time with his former teammates. Burress was at training camp most of the day Pittsburgh Tribune-Review beat writer Mark Kaboly had a PlaxWatch going throughout the afternoon with great coverage. Burress looked very comfortable per reports and appeared to have a one-on-one with Colbert and Kahn to perhaps talk numbers. Afterwards he was seen making several cell phone calls and smiling quite a bit. It would be easy to speculate that a deal

Day two of the Steelers 2011 training camp is now in the books and here is a recap with links for you in case you missed anything.
First I invite you to listen to today's episode of The Terrible Podcast as it is jammed full of info and views of David Todd and myself, following the recent moves and going-ons. Thanks for listening.
The day started off with a not so surprising bang as Flozell Adams was released. Adams become expendable after the Steelers came to terms with Willie Colon and Jonathan Scott on Thursday. Adams will save $5 million against the cap and there is no dead money involved.

The Steelers 2011 training camp has begun in Latrobe and here is a quick recap of what happened today in case you missed anything.
The day started with the official announcement that both tackle Max Starks and wide receiver Antwaan Randle El were being released. The surprising Starks news broke last night and the not surprising news on Randle El came this morning.
Art Rooney II joined the DVE morning show to discuss the release of Starks and also said he did not see either James Harrison or Hines Ward missing any playing time due to their recent incidents both were involved in. Rooney also

The Steelers annual conditioning test is now over and head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media after it concluded. Tomlin told reporters that it was a conditioning evaluation today and no pass or fail was given. He did say that wide receiver Hines Ward, left guard Chris Kemoeatu and tight end Eugene Bright would start training camp on the PUP list. Ward is coming off thumb surgery that he had done following his stint on Dancing with the Stars and Kemoeatu has some swelling in one of his knees.
Overall Tomlin said he was pleased with the condition of players today, although it was reported

Michael Lombardi is reporting via Twitter that Steelers unrestricted free agent tight end Matt Spaeth has agreed to terms today with the Chicago Bears. Spaeth was originally drafted by the Steelers in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft out of Minnesota. Prior to the lockout beginning, the Steelers reportedly had tried to tender Spaeth just in case he would have been deemed a restricted free agent this year. The new labor deal made that tender worthless as Spaeth has 4 years accrued in the league.
Spaeth was never a receiving threat in the Bruce Arians two tight end offense and was mostly

A day after safety Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith was re-signed to the offseason roster, the Steelers have also announced they have re-signed practice squad defensive end Ra'Shon Sunny Harris to their offseason roster on Thursday. Harris was originally drafted by the Steelers in the sixth round (205th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft, but was released prior to the start of the season. After spending time on the Carolina Panthers active roster and practice squad, he was released and re-signed to the Steelers offseason roster. He was with the Steelers again for the 2010 training camp, but once again failed

In his weekly press conference today, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin did not sound too confident that starting tight end Heath Miller would be ready this week against the Bengals as he recovers from the vicious concussion he sustained Sunday night against the Ravens. In fact he termed Miller doubtful today. He did give some good news injury wise and said back-up tight end Matt Spaeth has been cleared to return from his concussion he suffered against the Raiders a few weeks back. The Steelers only other tight end on the roster is David Johnson. They also have running back Isaac Redman they can

A reader emailed me this afternoon and wanted to know of the 75 players on the active roster, which ones are eligible to be signed to the practice squad and what constitutes eligibility. First we go to the NFL rules on this:
What makes a player eligible for an NFL practice squad?
(a) The practice squad shall consist of the following players, provided that they have not served more than two previous seasons on a Practice Squad: (i) players who do not have an Accrued Season of NFL experience; and (ii) free agent players who were on the Active List for fewer than nine regular season games during

The Steelers trimmed down to 75 players on Tuesday morning and now will need to cut 21 more by September 4th. Why 21 and not 22 you ask? This is because quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be moved to the reserve/suspended list, so technically that will not be a cut. I have listed 10 players that will likely be seeing the Turk soon and 16 players who could be considered on the bubble right now in my opinion. None of these are locked in stone mind you and this list is for entertainment purposes only, so no one get your feelings hurt until the cuts are made as ANYTHING can happen in these final days
