Steelers cornerback Fernando Bryant announced his retirement on Tuesday following a lengthy and well traveled, 10-year NFL career. The 32 year old Bryant had signed with the Steelers on Nov. 11, 2008. Bryant was originally drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 26th overall pick in the 1999 NFL draft and he became only the second Jaguar to start every game as a rookie. He went on to play for the Detroit Lions in a career that saw him start 109 of 112 games played.

Following the upcoming NFL draft the Steelers will begin the process of signing the draft picks. As those draft picks sign, the likelihood of their salary counting against the top 51 salaried players begins. At the current time, the Steelers are right up against the cap limit of $127,000,00.00, thus some players will need to be released that are currently in the top 51 salaries. Below are a few players I think will be released sometime in May.
LS Greg Warren - This grizzly veteran long snapper will save the Steelers around $650,000 in cap money and assuming Jared Retkofsky is fully recovered

The Steelers have re-signed veteran cornerback Fernando Bryant to a one-year contract on Tuesday. Bryant was a late addition last season for depth in the defensive backfield. Bryant had signed with the Steelers on Nov. 11 and played in only two games. Bryant will try to make the final roster as a reserve corner, but at 31 the odds may be against him.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media at noon to discuss the upcoming game, Thursday night, versus the Cincinnati Bengals. Tomlin started by saying the team had a great walk through this morning to install the initial game and will work again this afternoon. Tomlin commented that the Bengals seem to be finding a better rhythm. Tomlin commented again that reserve running back Gary Russell had two big third down and short carries and praised him. Injury wise, cornerbacks Bryant McFadden and Deshea Townsend will once again be sidelined this week. Guard Darnell Stapleton got rolled up

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday during his weekly press conference that starting running back Willie Parker is being evaluated closely with his shoulder subluxation injury suffered against the Redskins and is scheduled to practice on Wednesday. Parker is currently listed as day-to-day and will be fitted with a shoulder harness. Tackle Marvel Smith had a favorable work out this morning and may work this week as he recovers from his back injury. Tomlin stated that Smith has to knock off the rust quickly to be able to start if he is healthy. Staring tight end Heath Miller is still

Steelers signed 10-year veteran cornerback Fernando Bryant to a one-year contract. Bryant has made 109 starts in 110 games played during nine NFL seasons. He has recorded 509 tackles (435 solo), seven interceptions, defended 88 passes and recovered seven fumbles. The Steelers made room on their roster for Bryant by releasing rookie linebacker Donovan Woods, and subsequently signing him to the team’s practice squad. The Steelers also added rookie safety Ryan Mundy to their practice squad and released safety Grant Mason in order to make room for Mundy.
