The Steelers have released long snapper Jared Retkofsky and signed long snapper Matt Stewart to take his place on the roster. Stewart was a 2001 fourth-round draft pick by the Atlanta Falcons and was in training camp with both Arizona and Dallas over the last two seasons. Retkofsky played in 11 games for the Steelers over the past two seasons when Greg Warren went down injured.

The Steelers will find out Tuesday how many compensatory picks they will receive in this year's draft. You can view my projections I did on our picks a while ago as they are expected to receive picks for losing wide receiver Nate Washington, cornerback Bryant McFadden and quarterback Byron Leftwich in free agency last year.
Not surprising in the least is that the word came out on Sunday that the Steelers have a pre draft visit set with Idaho guard Mike Iupati. Iupati will be a popular guy prior to the draft as several teams will have him as one of their 30 players to visit with.

A reader alerted me to a Best Pittsburgh Sports Blog Tournament that has started and I am a #8 seed. The last #8 seed mind you. Not sure how that happened as I guess they think this blog is the equivalent of the Mount St. Mary's of the Final Four. If you would like to show them how Cinderella can dance.... Brandon Hunt, who broke into the NFL as an intern in the Steelers player personnel department will replace Doug Whaley as the team’s Pro Scouting Coordinator. Whaley left last week to become the Buffalo Bills Assistant General Manager.

The Steelers signed wide receiver Joey Galloway and long snapper Jared Retkofsky to the active roster on Tuesday. The Steelers had two open roster spaces when long snapper Greg Warren and wide receiver Limas Sweed were placed on the reserve list on Monday. The Steelers had previously brought in Galloway during the offseason when they were looking for a veteran receiver to add to their roster. This will be Retkofsky’s second stint with the Steelers. He was previously signed by the Steelers last October after Warren was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. The Steelers also reportedly

With second year wide receiver Limas Sweed being placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Illness list on Monday, the Steelers will need to fill the empty roster spot with another wide receiver. It is being reported that the Steelers have already contacted Shaun McDonald, who was released prior to the week 12 game versus Baltimore. They also reportedly have contacted veteran Ashley Lelie as well. One of the two will likely be signed on Tuesday. In addition to needing a receiver, the Steelers will also need a long snapper with Greg Warren being placed on injured reserve Monday with a torn ACL. Jared Retkofsky

Coming off of a five game losing streak, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin decided to do something about it himself, with a little help from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger as well. After kicker Jeff Reed kicked a 43 yard field goal to put the Steelers up 30-28 with 3:58 left in the game, Tomlin did the unthinkable. Tomlin approved an onsides kick in attempt to keep the pourous defense off of the field, but Ike Taylor was flagged for an illegal touching of the ball when it did not travel 10 yards before being recovered. The Packers took over at the Steelers 39 yard line and Packers quarterback Aaron

The Steelers win may have cost them their long snapper as Greg Warren is now likely lost for the final few games with a torn ACL according to head coach Mike Tomlin. Tomlin said it happened on the extra point on the final play of the game to give the Steelers the win. Warren was carried off of the field after the game was over. He will have an MRI and likely will be placed on injured reserve on Tuesday.

The Steelers cut long snapper Mark Estermyer this morning, meaning that veteran Greg Warren is likely 100% recovered from his injury last year. Warren is currently the only long snapper on the roster going into training camp.
Head coach Mike Tomlin seems to be worried about the conditioning of nose tackle Casey Hampton again going into training camp. On the flip side, it seems rookie Ziggy Hood is learning fast. He is currently playing the outside end spot.
Speaking of Hood, Mike Wilkening of Pro Football Weekly, sees Hood's biggest impact may come on passing downs. This will indeed help

Following the upcoming NFL draft the Steelers will begin the process of signing the draft picks. As those draft picks sign, the likelihood of their salary counting against the top 51 salaried players begins. At the current time, the Steelers are right up against the cap limit of $127,000,00.00, thus some players will need to be released that are currently in the top 51 salaries. Below are a few players I think will be released sometime in May.
LS Greg Warren - This grizzly veteran long snapper will save the Steelers around $650,000 in cap money and assuming Jared Retkofsky is fully recovered

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media a little while ago from the Steelers South Side practice facilty. Wide receiver Santonio Holmes met with Tomlin on Monday and is back with the team and will practice and should play this week baring any suspension from the league. Running back Willie Parker worked out today and Tomlin described his status as day-to-day. Safety Ryan Clark will be doubtful this week with a shoulder separation. Linebacker Keyaron Fox is still recovering from a hamstring injury and his status is undecided. Nose tackle Casey Hampton is day-to-day with turf toe, but
