Scott Brown blogged that he too thinks that Hines Ward will make it the Hall of Fame, but not likely on his first try. In my article this past week, I think he needs just 2 more average seasons to be a stone cold, lead pipe lock with the log jam ahead of him waiting to get in.. Mark Kaboly writes about how the Steelers are already prepping for opposing 4-3 defenses as they open the season with three consecutive games against 4-3 teams in the Falcons, Titans and Buccaneers. This also means the young guys are learning to work off of cards and how scout teams work as well. Good to see this detail Read more [...]
The sports writers got it right on the eve of the Super Bowl as Steelers defensive coordinator and former Detroit Lions cornerback Dick LeBeau was elected as a member of the 2010 Pro Football Hall of Fame class. LeBeau joins Emmitt Smith, Jerry Rice, Russ Grimm, Rickey Jackson, Floyd Little and John Randle as 2010 class members. Former Steelers center Dermontti Dawson made the cut of 15 modern day to 10, but did not survive the final cut to 5. Both LeBeau and Little go in as senior nominees. The Steelers officially announced the hiring of Al Everest as the team’s new special teams coordinator, something we announced a few days ago. Keep your eyes on former Bucs wide receivers coach Richard Mann. He is reportedly interviewing today with the Redskins, but if he isn't hired, he might get a call from Mike Tomlin. Tomlin coached with Mann at Tampa and Mann is also a native of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley will play in a charity basketball game put on by New Orleans Saints defensive back Mike McKenzie, Friday, Feb. 5, in Miami. Steelers Hall of Fame Read more [...]
Former Steeler great Rod Woodson became the 20th player from the Steelers to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday. Woodson played cornerback for the Steelers from 1987 through 1996 and then played for four other NFL teams before he retired after the 2003 season. Former Steelers center Dermontti Dawson and coach Russ Grimm did not receive enough votes to make it in this time around. Dawson was selected All-Pro six consecutive seasons and was selected to the NFL's team of the decade for the 1990s. Dawson played from 1988 to 2000.
