The contract signed by offensive tackle Max Starks on Tuesday, will reportedly create about $2 million in salary-cap room for this year.
Speaking of the Steelers salary cap, I have updated my salary cap numbers to reflect the current cap situation. These numbers are not exact, but should be close. Currently I have the team at around 9 million under the cap.
Mike Bires thinks the Steelers will likely try to finalize a new deal soon with tight end Heath Miller, who’s in the last year of his contract. Hopefully this can be wrapped up by training camp.

North Carolina tight end Richard Quinn does not look like much on paper as he caught just 12 passes for 124 yards and a pair of touchdowns during his career at UNC, but do not let the stats fool you. Quinn has shown he has good hands at the combine and is a nasty blocker as well. Steelers tight end coach, James Daniel should be able to mold Quinn quickly and have him ready to spell Heath Miller throughout the year. Quinn can create space in the running game and his a solid character guy. He works extremwely hard and takes the game very seriously. Quinn could also be a strong special teams contributor

The Arizona Cardinals are no doubt a Cinderella story of the 2008 season. Kurt Warner has played almost flawlessly throughout the post season along with wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. On defense the Cardinals have done just enough when it has counted most. For the Steelers this season it has been all about the defense with some inconsistencies mixed in on the offensive side of the ball.
I will start with what the Cardinals need to to to win Super Bowl 43. The Cardinals have been successful thus far in the playoffs because they have been able to run the ball successfully. The rushing numbers

Sunday will mark the third time this season the Steelers and Ravens have played this season. This year, the Steelers swept both of the previous games – barely. They won in overtime 23-20 on September 29 and then 13-9 on December 14. If the Steelers win Sunday, it would be only the 12th time in the 56 instances that teams have met three times in a season since 1970 that a three-game sweep occurred.
This game will match two teams that are almost mirror images of each other. Both teams rely heavily on their defenses and both offenses try to establish the running game and use the passing game

The Pittsburgh Steelers got off to another slow start against the San Diego Chargers on Sunday night, but rebounded to control the second half and beat the Chargers 35-24. The Steelers running game finally got on track, with running back Willie Parker rushing for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Both the Steelers offense and defense did just enough to attain a 14-10 halftime lead, but the offense opened up the second half with a 13 play drive ending in a Ben Roethlisberger to tight end Heath Miller 7 yard touchdown pass.
The Chargers opened up the game with a 4 play drive ending in a 41 yard touchdown

The San Diego Chargers visit Heinz Field to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers this evening. The Chargers will likely be without the services of running back LaDainian Tomlinson and will rely on a mixture of running backs Darren Sproles and Michael Bennett. The Steelers run defense is ranked second in the league, allowing just 80.2 yards a game. Quarterback Philip Rivers will look to work the ball into tight end Antonio Gates underneath and receivers Vincent Jackson and Chris Chambers along the corners. They key to the Chargers on offense will be to get Sproles involved in the screen and keep the

The Steelers were the ones on the right side of a defensive battle on a cold Sunday evening in Pittsburgh, winning at home 20-13 against the Dallas Cowboys. Cornerback Deshea Townsend intercepted a Tony Romo pass with just under two minutes left in the game and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown to put the Steelers ahead to stay. The defensive score came on the second play after the Steelers tied up the game 13-13 on a 6 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to tight end Heath Miller. The Cowboy defense stymied the Steeler offense most of the afternoon, holding them to just

This could be the game both the Steelers and Patriots look back on that made or broke their playoff chances. The Steelers still lead Baltimore by one game in the AFC North going into today's game. The Steelers still have a tough schedule to finish out the season, including two divisional games. The Patriots versus the Steelers has been one of the NFL's top rivalry games over the last decade, but it really has been very one-sided. New England is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings against Pittsburgh. And with the exception of a three-point game in 2005 five of the last six have been decided by double-digit

The Steelers sluggishly defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 27-10 in the cold and snow Thursday night. The Steeler offense was very sluggish early on coming off of a short week and the defense was back in form after giving up a first quarter touchdown. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger completed 17 of 30 passes for 243 yards and 1 touchdown and rushed for another touchdown late in the fourth quarter. The Steelers running game managed 122 yards most of which were provided by Mewelde Moore who came in for willie Parker.
