The Senior Bowl is now in the books and so kicks off the march towards the 2012 NFL draft. The next big event of course is the NFL combine that begins February 22nd and that is followed by the individual college pro days and pre draft visits. I purposely waited to release my first version of the 2012 Steelers mock draft so I could watch the Senior Bowl week coverage and game as to allow me to see several of players play and practice. With that said, I also like to research extensively to get a feel of what rounds players are expected to go in. As we have seen time and time again, several players Read more [...]

Forecasting The Steelers 2012 First Round Pick

By Jeremy Hritz It’s never too early to talk about the NFL Draft, and it’ never to early to speculate about the direction that the Pittsburgh Steelers will go in the first round. While the needs on the offensive line are well known, there are some other positions that need to be considered with the 24th overall pick. The pundits have wasted no time in showcasing their 2012 Mock Drafts on espn.com and nfl.com. In looking at those projections, the following seven players have surfaced: Safety, Mark Barron from Alabama Defensive End/Tackle, Fletcher Cox from Mississippi State Guard, Read more [...]
Season 2, Episode 71 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I get right to the Bruce Arians side of the story that came out last night. Arians said he was not offered a contract for next year and the Steelers said he retired, so we play around in the mess grey area in the middle there and discuss whether or not Steelers President Art Rooney II handled it right and if indeed he was the one that made the decision and not Mike Tomlin like he said would happen. Easy to figure who we think made that decision. We move on to talk about the recent report by Chris Mortensen as it relates to what Read more [...]
Season 2, Episode 67 of The Terrible Podcast is up and with David Todd back in New York we recap the Pittsburgh Steelers overtime loss to the Denver Broncos in the AFC Wild Card game. We sort of start our recap backwards and talk about the game winning play on the first play of overtime from Tim Tebow to Demaryius Thomas. It was a great play call against the right defense and Tebow made the throw. We break down the play pretty good along with things that led up to it. Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the other team. We sure do. After talking about some key injuries suffered in the Read more [...]

More Steelers Browns Game Observations & Notes

The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Cleveland Browns Sunday to close out the regular season at 12-4. As I do every week, here are my deeper post game observations after going through the game tape a few more times. The sack by Lawrence Timmons on the Browns opening saw Timmons come on a delayed blitz and he took on fullback Owen Marecic. Marecic did not hold his block long and Timmons spun away back inside for the sack. Jason Worilds should get a little credit on the play for taking right tackle Artis Hicks up the field to open up the lane. Great tackle on Josh Cribbs by Keenan Lewis on the Read more [...]
Season 2, Episode 63 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I get right into the final injury report report of the week for the upcoming game this Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. Who is in, who is out? Who plays and for how long? We discuss it. We then move on to talk about the team awards announced on Thursday. Was Antonio Brown the right choice for team MVP? Do Ben Roethlisberger, Mike Wallace or Ike Taylor have a right to be slighted with the team vote? Who did Wallace vote for anyways? We hammer through all of that as well, plus have a few laughs in the process. In the second Read more [...]
The Steelers defense created 35 take-aways in 2010 as opposed to just 14 so far this season. I went back and watched all off the takeaways from last year to refresh myself with how they were created. 8 of them were caused by getting to the quarterback in some shape or form. 6 were results of good hits on either a ball carrier or strip after a catch. 8 of them were results of bad throws by the opposing quarterback, 5 were nice plays where the Steelers defender jumped the route. 4 were balls that originally came off of a receivers hands and 4 more came on special teams. Below is a play-by-play Read more [...]
