We told you yesterday that the Pittsburgh Steelers promoted running back Chad Spann to the 53 man roster, but we did not have a corresponding move. This morning it was announced that rookie linebacker Chris Carter was placed on injured reserve with his bad hamstring. Carter has fought the hamstring all season and was only active for 8 games. He managed 3 tackles in his limited playing time.
Carter was the Steelers 5th round draft pick in 2011 out of Fresno State and is the third Steelers rookie draft pick to be placed on in injured reserve as he joins cornerback Curtis Brown and running back

The Pittsburgh Steelers as expected today placed running back Rashard Mendenhall on the season ending injured reserve list today and signed back defensive back Anthony Madison to the 53 man roster to fill the spot. Mendenhall tore the ACL in his right knee on the last play of the first quarter against the Cleveland Browns this past Sunday. The surgery date for Mendenhall has yet to be determined.
Madison is being brought back to help on special teams primarily as the Steelers will likely be without rookie cornerback Cortez Allen, who is recovering from a shoulder injury suffered on Sunday, against

Ed Bouchette reports via Twitter that the right knee injury suffered by Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall yesterday against the Cleveland Browns on a first half run is indeed a torn ACL and he will be lost for the rest of the playoffs. Bouchette reports that the good news is that there is no other damage in the knee and that Mendenhall will have surgery to repair the torn ACL over the next couple of weeks, presumably after the swelling goes down.
The injury happened on on the last play of the first quarter as Mendenhall attempted to plant his right leg and cut back inside on

Clay was signed by the Steelers as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Wisconsin on July 26, 2011 and has been on the Steelers practice squad all season. The Steelers placed punter Daniel Sepulveda on injured reserve on Saturday and signed back Jeremy Kapinos to take his place on the 53 man roster. Sepulveda suffered an injury to the knee of his plant leg on Friday and had been added to the injury report as questionable. It is the 3rd time that Sepulveda has been placed on injured reserve since being drafted by the Steelers in the 4th round of the 2007 draft. Through the first 8 games, Sepulveda managed a 46.1 gross average and a net average of 39.1 yards. 8 of his 25 punts were inside the opponents 20 yard-line. Sepulveda is once again scheduled

As expected, the Steelers signed defensive tackle Steve McLendon back to the 53 man roster on Saturday from the practice squad and placed quarterback Dennis Dixon on injured reserve. McLendon will backup Casey Hampton at nose tackle Sunday versus the Ravens as Chis Hoke will sit out with a MCL sprain.
