It's that time of year again. Here is a closer look at the 2010 Steelers free agents list as we head into the offseason. I listed the probability of their return with a brief summary of the player. The 3 most high profile free agents are Casey Hampton, Jeff Reed and Willie Colon. I also noted if they are restricted or unrestricted free agents.
LB Patrick Bailey RFA – Bailey is a special teamer that registered 13 tackles on returns in 2009. He was also part of one of the worst Steelers special teams units in quite a while. Bailey is a coin flip at best to return in 2010. He could be re-signed

The Steelers will have two franchise tags (teams will have use of one franchise tag and one franchise transition tags) to use should the 2010 season be an uncapped year. Right now the Steelers have 11 unrestricted free agents listed below. Their are really only 2 players that realistically could be considered for the franchise tag, those being Casey Hampton and Jeff Reed. By placing the franchise tag on a player, the Steelers must offer a one-year contract for an amount no less than the average of the top five salaries at the player's position as of a date in April of the current year in which

This weeks tea leaves are pretty murky as far as game day inactives versus the Dolphins on Sunday. Quarterback Charlie Batch will be the number 3 again with all likelihood this week as Dennis Dixon is the clear number 2 now. Safety Troy Polamalu and guard Chris Kemoeatu in all likelihood will be inactive this week. Kemoeatu might still play, but I look for Ramon Foster to start again in his place and that means Tony Hills will likely be given a helmet again this week while rookie Kraig Urbik seeing his normal spot on the inactive list. Newly signed cornerback Trae Williams probably is not up to

Lost in all of the Frank Summers and Isaac Redman training camp buzz, was the buzz about undrafted wide receiver Tyler Grisham. Many Steelers beat writers and bloggers joked that they never actually saw Grisham drop a ball during training camp and nearly every catch he made was a thing of beauty. While Grisham had no chance of making the Steelers 53 man roster over the Summer, he accepted it and continued to work as if he did. Grisham impressed the coaching staff enough to earn a practice squad spot. Practice squad spots are not glorious; players receive a weekly pay check based on a $88400.00

Audio from Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin press conference on Tuesday December 22nd. Tomlin addresses the upcoming week 16 Baltimore Ravens game on Sunday and takes questions on the past Packers game as well. As far as injuries go, wide receiver Hines Ward (hamstring) experienced a setback with his hamstring against the Packers and is day-to-day. Safety Troy Polamalu (knee) is having another MRI on his knee today and the results will determine his availability. He has not been ruled out yet. The Steelers signed wide receiver Joey Galloway and long snapper Jared Retkofsky to the active roster on Tuesday. The Steelers had two open roster spaces when long snapper Greg Warren and wide receiver Limas Sweed were placed on the reserve list on Monday. The Steelers had previously brought in Galloway during the offseason when they were looking for a veteran receiver to add to their roster. This will be Retkofsky’s second stint with the Steelers. He was previously signed by the Steelers last October after Warren was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. The Steelers also reportedly

Buccaneers free agent wide receiver Joey Galloway signed with the New England Patriots on Saturday. Galloway is 37 years old and coming off an injury-shortened 2008 season. He will look to fill the third receiver role behind Wes Welker and Randy Moss for the patriots. Galloway visited with the Steelers last week. Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Joey Galloway reportedly is visiting with the Steelers today. Galloway is 37 and is being looked at as a possible replacement for No. 3 receiver position vacated by Nate Washington, who signed last week with the Tennessee Titans. Galloway is a former 1995 No. 1 draft choice of the Seattle Seahawks, Galloway also has history with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, who was the Buccaneers secondary coach. Galloway has amassed six 1,000-yard receiving seasons during his 14-year NFL career in the NFL, including three in a row from 2005 to 2007 with the Buccaneers.
