The Pittsburgh Steelers head into their Sunday game against the Cleveland Browns looking to get their 12th win of the season. With a little help from the Cincinnati Bengals, they could get a first round bye as well should they take care of the Browns. This is the final regular season game of 2011, so there are also a few milestones in reach for a few Steelers players in this upcoming. Let's have a look at a few obvious and not so obvious ones and the chances each player has at reaching them. Hines Ward - You would have to be hiding underneath a rock to not know that Ward needs just five receptions Read more [...]
My offensive line breakdown from the week 7 game against the Arizona Cardinals is complete and I was fooled a bit from my initial views. I stated earlier that I thought it was a roller coaster type performance, but after going through it thoroughly, I found a pretty consistent showing. I think the play of Chris Kemoeatu made it seem like the line was worse than what it actually was. While I thought the run blocking was adequate, there were not huge holes or big creases as the Cardinals did a great job of avoiding second level traffic and did a good job loading the box to outnumber interior blockers. The Steelers wrapped up their practice preparations on Friday and will now travel out west to take on the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The week ending injury report from Friday is out and as expected, defensive end Aaron Smith (foot), nose tackle Casey Hampton (shoulder), linebacker James Harrison (eye) and guard Doug Legursky (toe) did not practice and have been ruled out this week. Nose tackle Chris Hoke (neck) did not practice for a third straight day and is listed as doubtful. Steve McLendon will likely make his first start at nose tackle on Sunday regardless if Hoke dresses. Linebacker Jason Read more [...]
Yesterday I had a look at the long ball stats of Ben Roethlisberger from 21+ yards and Pro Football Focus has a look this morning at all quarterbacks in the league from 20+ yards. The 1 extra yard does not change the fact that Roethlisberger has had accuracy issues this year with his deep passes. Speaking of Roethlisberger, he joined Jim Rome this week on his television show to talk about the Steelers 4-2 start and the preferential treatment that quarterbacks get from the referees. Video is below. Left tackle Max Starks recently sat down with Teresa Varley for a long interview on the latest Read more [...]
The Steelers Thursday injury report is out following practice and unfortunantly there are a few new names on it. Center Maurkice Pouncey (elbow), linebacker Jason Worilds (quad) and running back Rashard Mendenhall (knee) were all added today as being limited. Worilds is trying to fight back from the quad injury and apparently had a setback today. The Pouncey and Mendenhall injuries are new and happened today. Nose tackle Casey Hampton (shoulder), linebacker James Harrison (eye), guard Doug Legursky (toe), defensive end Aaron Smith (foot) all were out again today and not expected to play Sunday. There seems to be several misunderstandings out there of the timeline of events that eventually led to the Steelers not re-signing guard Alan Faneca and letting him walk following the 2007 season. I wrote a few days ago that it was a good decision based on the money wanted by Faneca and the attitude he had. I have assembled a timeline of the offseason prior to the start of the 2007 season below so everyone has a firm grasp of how those events transpired. It should be noted and no surprise that the Steelers like to extend their potential free agents the offseason before they are to enter the Read more [...]
Some big notes from last night as punter Daniel Sepulveda is out for the season with a torn ACL in his right knee. We have the video of the Heath Miller hit here as well as the Ben Roethlisberger hit to the nose here. Like them or not, Gerry Dulac of the Post Gazette has his report card from the game last night and looks to be a little kind in a few grades. Mike Tomlin talked to Rich Eisen and Warren Sapp of the NFL Network live earlier in the day and Tomlin told them he is pretty much tired of talking about all the hits. This of course was prior to all the hits Sunday night. He also has Read more [...]
Not too sure about this story and it's validity yet, but Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes is being accused of assault on a woman in Orlando. Holmes threw a glass of booze in a woman's face. The incident reportedly involved the whole glass and the woman suffered a cut near the eye. Orlando Police refused to write a police report, the woman says. Holmes was down in Disney this past week and spotted at an NFL media reception at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort. Let's see how this plays out and hope this is a joke. Adam Schefter reported last night that quarterback Read more [...]
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has the latest on the Ben Roethlisberger sexual assault allegations and says one more witness remains to be interviewed along with Big Ben. We should know in a few days or so whether or nor Ben will be charged with any crime. The Steelers coaching staff and scouts are down in Florida for the well anticipated Pro Day of the Florida Gators. Tim Tebow, Joe Haden, Carlos Dunlap, Maurkice Pouncey, Brandon Spikes and Major Wright are the big names getting the pre draft attention today. Kevin Colbert admits that the free agency fireworks are likely over for the Steelers Read more [...]
Ex-Steelers wide receiver Plaxico Burress vows to return to the NFL and said he apologized to the New York Giants for tarnishing the organization in an interview with Bill Cowher that is set to air Sunday on CBS. The interview was done from the upstate New York prison where Burress is currently incarcerated after pleading guilty to attempted weapons possession in the second degree. Another ex-Steeler making headlines is Joey Porter. Porter is making it known that he wants to be released from the Dolphins and not traded. Porter claims he wants to play out west closer to his family in California. Read more [...]
