We all knew running back Willie Parker would not be re-signed this past offseason. The writing was on the wall and he clearly is not the same running back he once was. The league must of thought the same thing as it showed with the lukewarm reception he got in free agency. Camp is only a few days old, but there have been enough practices and reports to get some initial impressions of what is going on and who is impressing and who is not. Neither Maurkice Pouncey nor rookie running back Jonathan Dwyer is expected to be sidelined very long with their hamstring problems. Guard Ramon Foster could resume light workouts as early as today. Steelers Top Six 2010 Training Camp Battles

When the Steelers report to Latrobe on tomorrow, so will begin several training camp battles that we will be keeping a close eye on. We have narrowed them down to six to match the six championships the Steelers have. They are as follows. 1. Quarterback - Byron Leftwich vs. Dennis Dixon - Mike Tomlin has let veteran Byron Leftwich receive most of the first team snaps since his re-acquisition from Tampa Bay. Steelers safety Troy Polamalu gave a great interview to Tom Robinson of the Virginian-Pilot while he was in town for the William and Mary football camp. Polamalu said, owners would be selfish to lock out players for the 2011 season saying, "America needs football. Steelers defensive line coach John Mitchell says he feels great about the defensive line going into camp. Starters Aaron Smith, Casey Hampton and Brett Keisel are all healthy and in great shape while Ziggy Hood should be able to contribute more this year as he is playing with better pad level, using his hands better and staying on his feet more this offseason. Mitchell hopes to rotate in Hood, Nick Eason and Chris Hoke to keep the line fresher with no drop offs this season. The Steelers continued their draft pick signings on Tuesday as they signed Utah linebacker Stevenson Sylvester and Georgia Tech running back Jonathan Dwyer to 3 year deals each. The Steelers have 4 drafted players to sign yet in Maurkice Pouncey, Jason Worilds, Chris Scott and Crezdon Butler. Sylvester was drafted in the fifth round (166th overall) while Dwyer was the Steelers first of two sixth-round picks (188th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.
