The Pittsburgh Steelers officially named former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley as the new offensive coordinator on Tuesday in an announcement on steelers.com. The Steelers have had an opening at the offensive coordinator position ever since it was announced back on January 20th that Bruce Arians would not return in 2012. Haley, the son of former Steelers Director of Player Personnel Dick Haley, has spent the last 17 years in the NFL in some capacity.
Haley said today in the statement released by the Steelers, "I am excited about the opportunity to come back home and work for a tremendous

Alby Oxenreiter, Sports Director for WPXI, tweets this afternoon that it is his understanding that former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley is the frontrunner for the Pittsburgh Steelers open offensive coordinator job. Since it was announced two weeks ago that Bruce Arians would not return for 2012, Haley was the only interview that has been 100% acknowledged by the Steelers website. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin also has reportedly had interest in Jim Caldwell, Alex Van Pelt and Hue Jackson as well, but if any of those interviews actually did take place, they only have fringe confirmation

Jason La Canfora reported last night that Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was looking into former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley as a possible candidate for the open offensive coordinator position and now we have confirmation from Bob Labriola that Tomlin interviewed Haley today at the team’s practice facility.
Haley, the son of former Steelers Director of Player Personnel Dick Haley, was hired to be the Chiefs head coach in 2009 and was fired late this past season. Prior to coaching the Chiefs, Haley was the offensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals under former

File this report in the "doesn't mean crap" category but it is my duty to pass along the report by Jason La Canfora on Twitter today that stated former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians has had talks with other NFL teams since it was announced last week that he would not be back with the Steelers in 2012. La Canfora reports that one of those talks was with the Arizona Cardinals, and presumably with head coach Ken Whisenhunt about the vacant quarterbacks coach job. Whisenhunt of course was the Steelers offensive coordinator under head coach Bill Cowher from 2004-2006 and Arians

The news officially broke this morning that Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians will not be back in 2012 according to a statement by head coach Mike Tomlin. With the offensive coordinator position now open I have put together a list below of the likeliest candidates to be the Steelers next offensive coordinator. Tomlin will be down in Mobile, Alabama next week for the Senior Bowl and there could be a few interviews that take place down there, but that is just speculation. Those interviews could include a few coaches not on my list below as well, as the Senior Bowl always is a

As most people already know, the Steelers cut veteran wide-receiver Antwaan Randle El today. Randle El, who turns 32 in August, was cut to free up cap space. A move, according to head coach Mike Tomlin, was a necessary business decision.
“I totally enjoyed playing before here and I know I will enjoy it now", said Randle El, following last year’s return to Pittsburgh after four un-substantial seasons in Washington.
Having only 22 receptions last year shouldn’t cause potential teams to shy away from inquiring about the veteran. Randle El still has value. First

Steelers legendary running back John Henry Johnson passed away this weekend at the age of 81. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987 and was the first player in Steelers history to rush for 1000 yards in a season. Here is a great video on his career.
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger came in as 41st-best player in the NFL as voted on by the players in the Top 100 Players of 2011 that the NFL Network is running. Ken Whisenhunt presented in him the video montage. The experts of course all think he was robbed and ranked too low.

There seems to be several misunderstandings out there of the timeline of events that eventually led to the Steelers not re-signing guard Alan Faneca and letting him walk following the 2007 season. I wrote a few days ago that it was a good decision based on the money wanted by Faneca and the attitude he had.
I have assembled a timeline of the offseason prior to the start of the 2007 season below so everyone has a firm grasp of how those events transpired. It should be noted and no surprise that the Steelers like to extend their potential free agents the offseason before they are to enter the

Steelers defensive backs coach Ray Horton has left the Steelers to take a position with the Dallas Cowboys according to a tweet by Jason La Canfora. Horton has been rumored to have been courted by the Cowboys for some time now, but had to wait until the season was over to interview him and offer him the job. Reportedly Steelers linebackers coach Keith Butler is not being granted permission by the Steelers to interview for the Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator job according to a tweet by Brandon Butler, the son of Keith. Butler reportedly is still a close friend of Cardinals head coach Ken

Leave it to the media to jump ahead of things. On Tuesday, police in Dublin, Ohio, investigated a golf foursome that included Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger after a woman bordering the course alleged that a person in the group had taken a piss on the golf course. Dublin police spokesman David Ball told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that no charges or citations were issued and that Roethlisberger was not the person seen urinating. So there goes Piss Gate!
We did however uncover a picture of Ben Roethlisberger talking to Whiz on a golf course, but not taking a Whiz on a golf course. Photo

Ed Bouchette's latest Steelers chat transcript was posted yesterday on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. This week Ed goes out on a limb and speculates quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be the starter when he return from his suspension. He also says rookie running back Jonathan Dwyer will contribute quite a bit this season for a rookie.
Bouchette also writes about the Steelers fascination with drafting undersized 4-3 ends and grooming them to play outside linebacker and special teams.
Pittsburgh West signed former Steelers left guard, Alan Faneca, to a one-year contract on Tuesday. Faneca was

Another day now and things are beginning to look a little better for Ben Roethlisberger as his accuser is not showing up for interviews and not being cooperative. Looks like she had a little to drink that night as well. OK, a lot to drink.
Ed Bouchette talked to former Steelers offensive coordinator and current Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt down at the owners meetings and asked about the mandate he received to run the ball more consistently in 2004. A great angle by Ed on this one.
NFL owners amended the jersey numbers system to allow defensive linemen to wear numbers between 50 and

Missouri linebacker Sean Weatherspoon has caught the Steelers eye as expected. He could be a guy the Steelers have an eye on in round one.
Mike Bires does not think the new contract that head coach Mike Tomlin gets over the next few weeks will come close to what ex-Steelers and current Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt just received.
