Every year heading into the final cut-down week fans are curious as to what players are eligible to be placed on the Steelers practice squad. In the new CBA the rule has not changed as far as the player eligibility goes. As always, every draft pick and undrafted free agent are eligible as these players are rookies. The biggest question always revolves around players that are not rookies that may have served time on a practice squad or have even made a 53 man roster for a short period of time. Below is the rule on practice squad eligibility and a list of the players that are currently on the bottom

The second Steelers preseason game is in the books and now it is time to post my 3rd version of the 2011 Steelers Final 53 Man Roster Prediction. If you missed the pre training camp 53 man roster projection edition or the 2.0 version, you can read them by visiting the links. There will be 2 more of these as we slowly work our way down to the final 53 man prediction following the last preseason game against the Panthers.
The first change you will notice in this version is that I am now only keeping 5 receivers instead of 6. Arnaz Battle has been removed as I think the receiving corps is deep

Ed Bouchette reports this morning that both Jonathan Scott and Marcus Gilbert have both had MRI tests on their respective injured knees and it revealed that neither of them have any ligament damage. Scott was injured on the first play from scrimmage against the Eagles on Thursday night as the pile rolled into his knee. The knee bent backwards and Scott limped pretty bad getting off the field.
Gilbert replaced Scott at left tackle and finished out the opening scoring drive. He did not return after he reportedly hyperextended his knee as well. Gilbert tweeted after the game that he would indeed

If you were worried about the health of Willie Colon you shouldn't be. Thursday night marked the second game in a row where he looked fresh and dominate. He has an amazing swat to knock defensive ends wide when he needs to and his footwork is top notch. It was hard to find much wrong with his performance against the Eagles. The same goes for center Maurkice Pouncey. He is so quick off of the line and can get to the second level very quickly. He will miss every now and again when he gets to a linebacker, but it is not often. He looks poised for a great sophomore season.
Jonathan Scott left after

There was not too much to get excited about last night as a Steelers fan, but I always look for the bright spots. as I posted in my 7 things to watch for prior to the game, I noted how I would like to see Antonio Brown and Tyler Grisham do the little things associated with being a well rounded receiver. It is almost like they both read my post as both played very well last night. The touchdown run by Isaac Redman best illustrates them both doing work to ensure Redman frees at the second level. The offensive line also did a good job and Redman shows a nice little spin move along with his power running

Day fourteen was the type of day at Steelers training camp that we all hate to hear about as rookie sensation 7th round draft pick Baron Batch has likely torn the ACL in his left knee late in practice today. Batch reportedly got his foot caught in a seam after finishing a run. The injury has not been confirmed yet by the Steelers, but judging by the reaction of Batch and several of his teammates, it will be shocking if it is anything but that. The Steelers were practicing on the field turf today likely because all of the recent rain in Latrobe. We wish Batch the best as he is a breath of fresh

Thursday at Steelers camp was the day every football fan was waiting for and the Steelers even pushed back practice in hopes that the new labor agreement would be ratified. The CBA was finally ratified later this afternoon and now hopefully we will have 10 years of labor peace. It should be noted that the Steelers as a team voted against the ratification to make a statement. It was not a majority no vote according to Mark Kaboly, but it goes in books as a team no vote.
David Todd and I recorded a new episode of The Terrible Podcast today and it includes our interview Wednesday with undrafted

It was pretty uneventful day news wise on Wednesday, day 7 of Steelers training camp, but there still was a little to talk about.
First off, for everyone still interested in former kicker Jeff Reed, I told you yesterday that he was visiting the Seahawks and today it was announced that he was signed by them. This means that Skippy is set to return to Pittsburgh week 2 when the Steelers host the Seahawks. I suspect he will get an earful from a portion of Steeler Nation.
Rookie undrafted tight end Weslye Saunders joined David Todd and I for a mid morning interview and you can listen to that

On Saturday, day 3 of training camp started off quickly again as Plaxico Burress was at Latrobe to visit with Mike Tomlin, Kevin Colbert, Omar Kahn and spend some time with his former teammates. Burress was at training camp most of the day Pittsburgh Tribune-Review beat writer Mark Kaboly had a PlaxWatch going throughout the afternoon with great coverage. Burress looked very comfortable per reports and appeared to have a one-on-one with Colbert and Kahn to perhaps talk numbers. Afterwards he was seen making several cell phone calls and smiling quite a bit. It would be easy to speculate that a deal

Day two of the Steelers 2011 training camp is now in the books and here is a recap with links for you in case you missed anything.
First I invite you to listen to today's episode of The Terrible Podcast as it is jammed full of info and views of David Todd and myself, following the recent moves and going-ons. Thanks for listening.
The day started off with a not so surprising bang as Flozell Adams was released. Adams become expendable after the Steelers came to terms with Willie Colon and Jonathan Scott on Thursday. Adams will save $5 million against the cap and there is no dead money involved.

Not only did the Steelers draft two cornerbacks over the weekend, they also drafted two offensive linemen in the form of 2nd round draft pick Marcus Gilbert out of Florida and 6th round selection Keith Williams from Nebraska. Much like I did with my post draft look at the Steelers cornerback situation, I will now give you an early look at the Steelers offensive line as it stands today following the draft depth chart wise. The Steelers kept 9 linemen on the active roster in 2010 and may be forced to keep as many as 10 this year depending on how the free agency situation shakes out with Willie Colon.

I have been getting a few questions via email, Facebook and Twitter about the state of the Steelers offensive line going forward into 2011, so I thought I would address it a post as sort of a State of the Union type piece of who is under contract, who is not and so on. As always you can refer back to the week to week offensive line grading I did play by play of the through out the entire 2010 season.
Maurkice Pouncey - There really should not be any full explanation needed here as Pouncey was superb as a rookie. He will need to get a bit stronger in 2011 and work on some technique issues, especially

A day after safety Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith was re-signed to the offseason roster, the Steelers have also announced they have re-signed practice squad defensive end Ra'Shon Sunny Harris to their offseason roster on Thursday. Harris was originally drafted by the Steelers in the sixth round (205th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft, but was released prior to the start of the season. After spending time on the Carolina Panthers active roster and practice squad, he was released and re-signed to the Steelers offseason roster. He was with the Steelers again for the 2010 training camp, but once again failed
