Jamie Dukes tries to somewhat defend the hit by linebacker James Harrison on Colt McCoy Thursday night, but does not do a very good job in my opinion. Dukes really has become gun shy lately giving his opinion and you can really tell in this piece.
The league has explained to Mike Florio why the hit on McCoy by Harrison will likely earn him a pretty good fine and possibly even a suspension.
Here is the sit down that Michael Irvin had with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger prior to the Thursday game to discuss his injuries through the years and how he wants to go down in franchise history.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is suggesting that Steelers safety Troy Polamalu might be fined for talking on a cell phone on the sideline following him leaving the game with concussion-like symptoms.
According to Alex Holmes, Polamalu's brother-in-law, the phone was handed to him by the Steelers team physician and that there is no way that he gets fined by the league.
As far as the the prognosis of Polamalu, I was told earlier that he only suffered a mild concussion and that he should be fine. The league is strict with players being cleared properly following concussions through a battery

ESPN North blogger James Walker did a team-by-team look at the most underrated players in the division and listed defensive end Brett Keisel as his Steelers choice and that is not a bad selection at all in my opinion.
Mike Florio attempted to do the Steelers team checklist and missed the mark on quite a few things including bringing back Plaxico Burress and letting Ike Taylor walk. Both are incredibly stupid notions in my opinion coming from a guy who proclaims to be a long time fan of the Steelers..

Bob Labriola has the great story on how the Steelers got lucky in the 1987 draft and were able to draft Hall of Fame cornerback Rod Woodson. A great read.
Steelers Hall of Fame cornerback Mel Blount was on 93.7 The Fan Tuesday morning and gave his thoughts about the current NFL, from an 18-game schedule to HGH testing in the league. Also, The Mel Blount Celebrity Blackjack Tournament is on April 9th at The Meadows.

Steelers scout Mark Gorscak was present for the Tuesday Alabama A&M Pro Day where little known defensive tackle Frank Kearse was on display. Also on display were tackle Anquez Jackson, defensive tackle Korey Morrison, running back Ulysses Banks, inside linebacker Afu Okosun and wide receiver Rashad Johnson. Gorscak commented on only Kearse and Jackson in the article.
The NFL writers from ESPN.com are ranking the top at each position over the next few weeks and first up on Tuesday were the wide receivers. Mike Wallace came in 12th and one spot ahead of former Steelers receiver Santonio Holmes.

Desperate times calls for desperate measures. The Steelers have been ravaged by injuries at the quarterback position and Mike Tomlin has the team doctors hard at work Frankensteining us a starting quarterback for the final 2 games before the return of Ben Roethlisberger following the bye week.
After all of the operations this week, the new 3 man QB monster will be named, BaftWixon. This QB will feature the legs and feet of Dennis Dixon which were cloned prior to the meniscus tear this week. The legs will enable complete escapability for the monster QB from any collapsed pocket. I must admit that the Monday Mike Tomlin press conference on Labor Day caught me off guard a bit. Normally on a regular season game week, Tomlin holds his weekly Tuesday press conference to discuss the upcoming opponent, go over the injury situation and who may or may not practice through out the week. He then fields questions from the media and is not really heard from again until his post game press conference.
The presser yesterday was merely to talk about the newly elected team captains, how healthy the team is overall and to announce that Dennis Dixon will be the starting quarterback against

Many folks do not like Mike Florio, but yet all of them visit his site at ProFootballTalk.com. Florio gave an excellent interview on the LaVar and Dukes radio show defending social media and small bloggers everywhere in light of the Mike Wise fiasco. Make sure to listen to the first two audio podcast. Speaking of Wise, the Washington Post sportswriter and columnist was suspended Tuesday for one month for his hoax.
Scott Brown of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review did an exclusive one-on-one interview with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger that you can hear below and Brown recaps it here as well.

Perhaps the biggest news to come out of the Thursday Mike Tomlin press conference was the word that Jonathan Scott would work at right tackle with the first-string offense after Flozell Adams exits. We broke down Adams 11 snaps earlier in the week and he was not even close with his pass blocking. Adams hopefully will improve leaps and bounds this week as we will be watching both very closely. The fact is that neither measure up to Willie Colon thus far from where we are standing.
John Harris wrote about the battle for the left cornerback position between Bryant McFadden and Keenan Lewis. Lewis

Mike Florio was on 93.7 The Fan a week ago and was talking about the LaMarr Woodley contract situation. Florio had a quote that intrigued me when he said, “Is it the system or is it the player? Sometimes they decide it’s the player and they pay the player. Sometimes they decide it’s the system and they let the player walk away.” I went back and compiled the stats of Steelers left outside linebackers going back to 1994 and the numbers have been fairly consistent for the most part over the years. For years that players did not start all 16 games, I added the stats of the players that started

Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer has a press conference scheduled for this afternoon and will respond to allegations that former Gator lineman Maurkice Pouncey took $100,000 from the representative of a sports agent in December. The Pouncey family is reportedly holding off on a statement until Meyer addresses the media today.
Steelers outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley is getting a bit more vocal about his contract situation and we have all the interviews and stories here.

You can tell it is the lull before training camp as bloggers, news outlets and online sports media persona's scrape for any topical subject to write or speculate about in order to bring visitors to their sites. I guess you can add this very post on to the heap, but only in hopes of squashing all of this stupid speculation of Terrell Owens landing with the Steelers. The notion was put into motion in a Sporting News article by the rumor flogging writer Mike Florio, who runs Pro Football Talk. In Florio's defense he does break a ton of news, but he is better known for sensationalizing topics and speculating

Joe Linta, the agent for Steelers offensive tackle Willie Colon, was interviewed by The FAN’s John Seibel on Wednesday to discuss how the surgery on Colon went and his furture going forward as he will remain a restricted free agent going into 2011. The injury has devastated Colon who was looking at a chance at his one huge pay day, should he have had a good season this year. You have to feel bad for poor Willie as he was hurt by the NFL not having a CBA in place this year as we mentioned a few days ago.
