The Steelers and the mayor are scheduled to hold a press conference on Wednesday to provide details of a new road that will be named for former coach Chuck Noll.
Dale Lolley tweeted that the newly re-signed Trai Essex said that he remained unsigned until this week because he had put on too much weight during the offseason. Essex had been recovering from ankle surgery during the offseason, but has lost two babies worth

Mike Prisuta is reporting via Twitter that Trai Essex is visiting the South Side today. Prisuta says that Essex is there to pick up his AFC Championship watch and, perhaps, do some business. According to his tweet, Essex said, "We'll see."
Essex was one of the few unrestricted free agents that the Steelers chose not to re-sign once the free agency period opened following the lockout. Last year he saw stints at both guard and tackle after opening the season as the starting right guard spot. He was sidelined briefly with an ankle injury early in the season and ended serving as a backup once he

David Todd and I recorded a new episode of The Terrible Podcast this morning and discussed the play against the Redskins last Friday and talk about a few roster battles that are left to be settled.
Hines Ward says he is focused on just one thing right now and that is playing Baltimore in week 1. He says he even watched their first preseason game against the Eagles and focused on their new cornerback Jimmy Smith as well.
Doug Legursky, Ramon Foster and Keenan Lewis all addresses the media after Monday morning's walk through and the interviews are all up on Steelers.com. Legursky and Foster

The Steelers got back to business on Sunday after their 16-7 loss Friday night to the Redskins as they held a morning and afternoon practice on Sunday.
Here some notes leading up to practice today.
I have both the offensive and defensive participation charts up from Friday night as well as the offensive line and blocking report from the game. I also totaled up the coverages from the game as well.
Former Steelers special teams ace Anthony Madison has signed with the Lions.
Chris Kemoeatu was activated from the active PUP today and that leaves only tight end Eugene Bright on the list.

Mike Prisuta is reporting via Twitter that free agent tight end Reggie Kelly is scheduled to visit the Steelers on Tuesday. Kelly was originally drafted by the Falcons in the second round of the 1999 NFL Draft and played his first four seasons in Atlanta before signing with the Bengals as an unrestricted free agent in 2003. He suffered a ruptured left Achilles' tendon prior to the start of the 2009 season and the Bengals were forced to place him on injured reserve.
Kelly returned in 2010 for the Bengals and played in all 16 regular season games. He recorded just 10 catches for 42 yards in just

Day 6 of Steelers training camp is in the books and this post will serve as your daily recap of the comings and goings from Tuesday at Latrobe.
The morning started with the announcement that long snapper Greg Warren had agreed to terms. The Steelers only had one long snapper in camp in the form of Derek Chard and Warren now appears to be the odds on favorite to continue his role as the long snapper. This now means that all of 2010 specialist are back on the roster in Warren, Daniel Sepulveda, Shaun Suisham and Jeremy Kapinos. Sepulveda is the odds on favorite to beat out Kapinos if indeed he

Sunday was day 4 of Steelers training camp and once again the news got off to an early start as the Plaxico Burress watch is now over after he agreed to terms on a one year deal with the Jets for a little over $3 million. Perhaps the trip to Pittsburgh was just a ploy to drive his price tag up, but I am willing to bet the Steelers were not in the ballpark money wise. Whatever the reason was, it doesn't matter at this point.
The next bit of news we got right before practice started is that the Steelers had agreed to terms with cornerback William Gay on a one-year deal. No terms were announce, but

Day two of the Steelers 2011 training camp is now in the books and here is a recap with links for you in case you missed anything.
First I invite you to listen to today's episode of The Terrible Podcast as it is jammed full of info and views of David Todd and myself, following the recent moves and going-ons. Thanks for listening.
The day started off with a not so surprising bang as Flozell Adams was released. Adams become expendable after the Steelers came to terms with Willie Colon and Jonathan Scott on Thursday. Adams will save $5 million against the cap and there is no dead money involved.

DVE reporter Mike Prisuta reported via Twitter this morning that offensive linemen Doug Legursky and Ramon Foster will battle during training camp for the starting right guard spot according to Steelers offensive line coach Sean Kugler. Foster ended the season as the starting right guard after Trai Essex and Legursky both made starts there early last season.
Prisuta also reports that defensive end Aaron Smith said he is healthy and that he'll assume a back up role if that's what Steelers want him to do, without issue. Prisuta added that Smith will open camp as the starting left defensive end.

WDVE reporter Mike Prisuta reported on Twitter this morning that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger told him today that the offense has indeed held players-only workouts since the lockout started. This confirms the news that wide receiver Limas Sweed told us on the Terrible Podcast a few weeks ago as well as the report that wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders also had gotten together with the offense as well during the offseason to take part in some pitch and catch with other members of the Steelers offense.
Roethlisberger has been good about texting and emailing players, according to Sweed,

Mark Kaboly reports that kicker Jeff Reed has changed his kickoff steps and it has resulted in some discomfort but a lot more power as Reed has kicked off 10 times so far this season, and two of the kicks have been touchbacks.
Max Starks will be breaking out the Duce Staley pickle juice down in Tampa this Sunday. Max says his grandmother introduced it to him while growing up in Florida, and he wears by it as an tonic for dehydration.
Ed Bouchette blogged this morning that if the Steelers once again only dress 7 lineman doen in Tampa, it could be Ramon Foster up this time instead of Tony Hills.

Bob Labriola and Mike Prisuta are back with another Agree to Disagree on Steelers.com. In the latest Season Outlook episode they discuss AFC North playoff teams, and if there will be a repeat champion in the NFL this year.
Mike Bires writes that cornerback Keenan Lewis will bounce back from his Denver debacle. Lewis says he will still be the same aggressive, physical player he's been all preseason when he plays tonight, but promises to be smarter when it comes to hitting receivers near the sideline. Lewis likely will be the second left corner in behind William Gay.
Scott Brown has a closer

ESPN North blogger James Walker reported on Monday that linebacker LaMarr Woodley would not be holding out this training camp. I am not sure why this was treated as breaking news around Steeler Nation as Woodley has said along he would report on time. Nearly every interview he has stated that. To me, this is a little media sensationalism trying to stir things up one last time before camp. It's not news, people.
Washington Observer writer Dale Lolley suggest that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger ease the burden on his teammates on Friday or Saturday and address the media questions surrounding his

Jeff Sperbeck, the agent for backup quarterback Dennis Dixon, is sounding off that Dixon did not get enough time with the first-team offense during offseason workouts for the coaching staff to fully evaluate his development. Sperbeck questions why Byron Leftwich is ahead of his client on the depth chart after being brought back from Tampa. This is just an agent posturing for a client in a contract year in my opinion. I have faith the starting job is still not fully decided at this time. Dixon needs to just take it.
Linebacker LaMarr Woodley is responding to criticism that he is using the media
