Report: Steelers May Have Interest In Plaxico Burress

Here we go again. Jason Cole from Yahoo Sports reported tonight via Twitter that both the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants might have interest in unrestricted free agent Plaxico Burress. Burress signed a one-year deal late last July with the New York Jets after making a free agent visit to Pittsburgh. The Jets paid Burress $3.017 million last season after he spent two years in prison on a gun conviction. Burress played in all 16 games last season for the Jets and recorded 45 catches for 612 yards to go along with 8 touchdowns. Source says both steelers and G-men could make a play for Read more [...]
Let me start this post off by saying that I am a huge fan of Pat Kirwan. For those that do not know it, he is the co-host of the show Movin' The Chains on SiriusXM NFL Radio. Before his radio gig, Kirwan spent eight years with the New York Jets, beginning as a defensive assistant coach and advancing to director of player administration, where he negotiated contracts and managed the team's salary cap. Before that he was an area scout for the Phoenix Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has also authored a fantastic book called Take Your Eye Off the Ball that I really suggest everyone read. On Read more [...]
It was announced on Tuesday that the first game of 2012 NFL regular season will be played on Wednesday, September 5th at at MetLife Stadium as to avoid a conflict with President Barack Obama’s Thursday night speech at the Democratic National Convention. The Super Bowl XLVI champion New York Giants will be the home team of course and the speculation has been rampant as to who they will play. When you look at the Giants 2012 opponents that they will play at home in 2012, you will see that they are scheduled to host the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, New Orleans Saints, Read more [...]
New Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley will not be the only one pushing quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to step up his game in 2012, as Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Wednesday morning that Roethlisberger told him that he has a little extra motivation now because New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has now tied him in Super Bowl wins with two. Both Manning and Roethlisberger were both part of the great quarterback 2004 draft class that also featured San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. Roethlisberger was drafted 3rd of that group as Manning was Read more [...]

Big Ben vs. Eli: Who Has Your Vote?

By Jeremy Hritz Prior to the 2011 season, there was no doubt of who was the premier quarterback from the 2004 NFL Draft. Ben Roethlisberger, selected 11th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers, sported a resume jeweled by three Super Bowl appearances, two Super Bowl victories, and an aptitude for last minute victories. The success he had experienced in his short career carried more weight than the other quarterbacks that were drafted in the first round the same year as Roethlisberger. But after the New York Giants Super Bowl win against New England Patriots, Eli Manning has now knocked a leg or Read more [...]
Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison and safety Ryan Clark did not hold back their thoughts after the New England Patriots lost to the New York Giants this past Sunday in Super Bowl XLVI, as both took to Twitter to pile on the Patriots after their loss. Harrison first let loose with a tweet that said, "Told you, cheaters never win!!!!!!!!!" and that prompted a tweet from Clark that read, "0-2 post spy gate! Just saying!!" It has been a big non-story ever since the Super Bowl ended but it has prompted a response now from Patriots linebacker Dane Fletcher which read, "Hilarious how some Read more [...]
Season 2, Episode 75 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I have quite a bit to talk about in what continues to be a very busy start of the offseason for the Pittsburgh Steelers. We start out by talking about the report that surfaced Monday night that tight end Wesyle Saunders will be suspended for the first four games of the 2012 season and how it could possibly hurt the Steelers. There is still quite a bit of speculation surrounding the suspension and we admit we have to look up the suspension process as it relates to PEDS and all that surrounds that. Hopefully the young tight end Read more [...]
Dan Wetzel has a great timeline up that documents New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady from locker room to boarding the team bus after the loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI. Speaking of the Patriots team bus, Brady's wife Gisele Bundchen threw the Patriots wide receivers underneath it on the way out of the stadium following the game. Bundchen was caught using an F-bomb expletive on camera while doing it as well. Dermontti Dawson shared his thoughts on being elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame with Teresa Varley before flying out to Indianapolis to take part in the Read more [...]
The New England Patriots lost to the New York Giants 21-17 in Super Bowl XLVI and not only was the Pittsburgh Steelers fan base happy with the Patriots failure to capture their 4th Super Bowl championship, but so were a few Steelers players as both safety Ryan Clark and linebacker James Harrison let their thoughts be known about the Patriots on Twitter. Harrison was the first to pile on with,"Told you, cheaters never win!!!!!!!!!" and followed it up with, "Lol, I'm sorry I couldn't help it!!!" Told you, cheaters never win!!!!!!!!!— James Harrison (@jharrison9292) February 6, 2012 Clark Read more [...]

Unless you were working all day or hiding under a rock on Saturday, you likely know by now that Dermontti Dawson and Jack Butler were elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2012. If you missed the interviews with each that followed on the NFL Network, you can see the Dawson interview here and the Butler interview here. Butler still seems razor sharp for his age and I can't wait to hear his induction speech later this Sunday. The "NFL GameDay Morning" crew shared their disappointment on the finalist they thought were snubbed yesterday by the election committee. Pittsburgh Steelers Read more [...]

The Rooney-Mara Connection

With the New York Giants in the Super Bowl this year, there will undoubtedly be some speculation regarding whether or not the Rooney family, majority owners of the Pittsburgh Steelers, will be rooting for them against the New England Patriots or not.  The reason:  The Rooneys and Maras have a connection that is steeped in family connectedness. The relationship between Art Rooney "The Chief" and Tim Mara goes as far back as the late 1920s and early 1930s, and it didn't necessarily relate to football, although both men were creating franchises that would go on to produce World Championship teams.
