Unless you were working all day or hiding under a rock on Saturday, you likely know by now that Dermontti Dawson and Jack Butler were elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2012. If you missed the interviews with each that followed on the NFL Network, you can see the Dawson interview here and the Butler interview here. Butler still seems razor sharp for his age and I can't wait to hear his induction speech later this Sunday.
The "NFL GameDay Morning" crew shared their disappointment on the finalist they thought were snubbed yesterday by the election committee.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell held his yearly State of the NFL press conference today in Indianapolis and announced that the the NFL Network will broadcast 13 Thursday night games starting in 2012. Goodell also said that all 32 NFL teams will be guaranteed at least one prime time game over the course of the 2012 season.
The NFL Network broadcasted eight Thursday night games last season and the new package will start in Week 2 and will run through Week 15 of the 2012 regular season. The question now becomes, how does this figure in with the strong push for player safety? Giving players a short

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is certainly not happy about offensive coordinator Bruce Arians being let go and he has spoke out about today to two different media outlets. Roethlisberger, who is currently in Hawaii practicing for the Pro Bowl game on Sunday, told Fran Charles and Marshall Faulk of the NFL Network in regards to the departure of Arians, "Well, anyone that knows about the Pittsburgh Steelers, it's family, from the top to bottom, from the Rooney's all the way down to the training staff, to equipment staff. Everybody. So when you lose a family member it always tough

Teresa Varley has a great piece up on steelers.com about Pittsburgh Steelers rookie cornerback Curtis Brown and the tough path he has traveled getting to the NFL. It really shows how Brown has overcome adversity throughout his life.
Varley also had a chance to talk with former Steelers draft pick and NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock prior to him calling the Thursday night game. Mayock was drafted in the 10th round of the 1981 draft and his father was also drafted by the Steelers in the 50's. Mayock talks about his brief time with the black and gold.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had a great line last week when asked about Cleveland Browns wide receiver/return man Josh Cribbs when he said, "We've been dead Indians in his cowboy movie enough." While this post has nothing to do with Cribbs, that quote immediately circled back through my head upon seeing Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger limp back out on the field to start the second half. It looked like something out of an old western movie, like a cowboy that had been shot in the leg, or ankle in this case, and continued to walk towards the next fight.
We all can admit

It was announced earlier today that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered a broken or fractured thumb on his right hand against the Bengals on Sunday and while he is expected to be ready for the Sunday night game against the Kansas City Chiefs following the bye this week, the status of outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley and second year receiver Emmanuel Sanders for that game looks to be in doubt.
Steelers beat writer Gerry Dulac was on NFL Network this evening and said that he thinks Sanders will be out for sure against the Chiefs as he recovers from the minor surgery on his knee.

Yesterday I had a look at the long ball stats of Ben Roethlisberger from 21+ yards and Pro Football Focus has a look this morning at all quarterbacks in the league from 20+ yards. The 1 extra yard does not change the fact that Roethlisberger has had accuracy issues this year with his deep passes.
Speaking of Roethlisberger, he joined Jim Rome this week on his television show to talk about the Steelers 4-2 start and the preferential treatment that quarterbacks get from the referees. Video is below.
Left tackle Max Starks recently sat down with Teresa Varley for a long interview on the latest

NFL Network reporter Albert Breer is reporting this evening that Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin actually called Steelers patriarch Dan Rooney in Ireland last week and implored him to get a new contract extension done with safety Troy Polamalu before the season started. Polamalu, who was entering the final year of his contract, signed a new $36.5 million deal right before the Steelers took off from the Pittsburgh airport to travel to Baltimore last Saturday. Polamalu was actually photographed signing the contract at the airport.
Heading into the week 1 game against the Ravens, it was looking

The Steelers 2011 season kicks off this Sunday and I have purposely waited until now to post a game by game quick look ahead at the Steelers 2011 schedule. The free agent moves and final roster cuts have taken place around the league and it provides a much clearer look at where teams are at that the Steelers will face this year. I will not go too much into depth with each game and will try to capsulize each. So many things can change the further you get into the season and you never can predict injuries that may occur along the way. With all of those disclaimers out of the way, here is a quick

Season 2, Episode 4 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I start by looking at all the recent Steelers signings, 9 of their own unrestricted free agents, 2 of their restricted free agents and their first signing of a player from outside the organization which was announced on Tuesday morning in the form of tight end John Gilmore.
After that we get into the roster battles. This is the most important and most interesting topic throughout the preseason and we will be sharing out thoughts and opinions on every podcast from now until the 53-man roster is set in early September. We discuss

Steelers offensive lineman Ramon Foster said via Twitter that he talked to several players who said their teams didn't vote for the top 100 players in the recent NFL Network list. Fellow Steelers Ryan Clark and LaMarr Woodley have tweeted pretty much the same thing since the show started. Perhaps only Patriots, Ravens and Packers player s were allowed to vote.
Speaking of Woodley, look for the linebacker on the Thursday night episode of NY Ink getting his latest tattoo done this offseason.
