Season 2, Episode 43 of The Terrible Podcast is up and with co-host David Todd tied up today I had a chance to catch up with Steelers beat writer Scott Brown from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. I ask Scott about Hines Ward and his situation going forward after the bye and if he thinks the Steelers have handled it right so far. We talk injury status of Emmanuel Sanders of LaMarr Woodley and if he thinks either will play against the Chiefs following the bye. Cameron Heyward did not play a snap on defense for the first time this season Sunday and I ask Scott if he has unearthed any news or reason Read more [...]
Season 2, Episode 39 of The Terrible Podcast is up and with David Todd caught in travel, I am joined by Steelers beat writers Dejan Kovacevic and Mark Kaboly from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review to talk Steelers Ravens 2. In my first interview with Dejan we go over the Friday injury and report and focus the first part on the defensive side of the ball and what the Steelers may and may not do scheme wise this week against the Ravens. Dejan does not think it is a slam dunk that the Steelers use all man coverage like they did last week against the Patriots, but does think that Ike Taylor could be Read more [...]
David Todd and I recorded a new episode of The Terrible Podcast this morning and discussed the play against the Redskins last Friday and talk about a few roster battles that are left to be settled. Hines Ward says he is focused on just one thing right now and that is playing Baltimore in week 1. He says he even watched their first preseason game against the Eagles and focused on their new cornerback Jimmy Smith as well. Doug Legursky, Ramon Foster and Keenan Lewis all addresses the media after Monday morning's walk through and the interviews are all up on Steelers.com. Legursky and Foster Read more [...]

Steelers 2011 Training Camp – Day Eighteen Recap

The Steelers got back to business on Sunday after their 16-7 loss Friday night to the Redskins as they held a morning and afternoon practice on Sunday. Here some notes leading up to practice today. I have both the offensive and defensive participation charts up from Friday night as well as the offensive line and blocking report from the game. I also totaled up the coverages from the game as well. Former Steelers special teams ace Anthony Madison has signed with the Lions. Chris Kemoeatu was activated from the active PUP today and that leaves only tight end Eugene Bright on the list. The Read more [...]

Steelers 2011 Training Camp – Day Twelve Recap

Day 12 of Steelers training camp started with a transaction as it was announced that defensive end Ty Boyle had been released and defensive end Jarrett Crittenton was claimed off waivers from Seattle to take his spot on the roster. Boyle is the nephew of Penguins CEO and President David Morehouse and the Steelers might have done him a favor by inviting Boyle to camp. Another move was made on Monday as receiver Hines Ward was activated from the active PUP this morning so he could participate in his first full practice today. Ward was still recovering from offseason thumb ligament surgery when Read more [...]
Season 2, Episode 3 of The Terrible Podcast is up and day 3 of Steelers training camp is in the books now. I am joined by Mark Kaboly from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review who had the epic Plaxico Burress watch going on Twitter today as he gave a play-by-play of the Burress visit. Make sure you are following him at @MarkKaboly_Trib. We talk about the Burress visit and the chances of him signing with the Steelers to get the interview off to a fast start. I ask Mark if he thinks the offseason foot surgeries that Emmanuel Sanders had is behind the interest in Burress. We talk about the Steelers salary Read more [...]
On Saturday, day 3 of training camp started off quickly again as Plaxico Burress was at Latrobe to visit with Mike Tomlin, Kevin Colbert, Omar Kahn and spend some time with his former teammates. Burress was at training camp most of the day Pittsburgh Tribune-Review beat writer Mark Kaboly had a PlaxWatch going throughout the afternoon with great coverage. Burress looked very comfortable per reports and appeared to have a one-on-one with Colbert and Kahn to perhaps talk numbers. Afterwards he was seen making several cell phone calls and smiling quite a bit. It would be easy to speculate that a deal Read more [...]
Mark Madden is at it again and this time he calls linebacker James Harrison an embarrassment for Pittsburgh and thinks the Steelers should suspend Harrison for the week one game against the Ravens. Perhaps Madden needs to think about taking some anger management classes as well. Speaking of Harrison, the recently retired Mike Vrabel doesn't believe he should be fined for his comments about NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and if he is, think the NFLPA will likely take issue with it. The NFLPA executive committee members began arriving in Washington, D.C., today and will meet through Tuesday Read more [...]
Steelers linebacker James Harrison released an apology type statement last night and several teammates have started to show their support of him. The two sides agreed to rookie wage scale on Thursday and the lockout is getting ever so closer to ending. They also reached a tentative agreement to make the 2011 salary cap $120 million. Steelers.com has another in a series of stories up chronicling the 52 playoff games in Steelers history and this week Craig Wolfley writes about the 1984 AFC Divisional Round win versus the Denver Broncos. Adam Schein writes on FoxSports.com that the Rooneys Read more [...]
Episode #65 of The Terrible Podcast is up and I fly solo as David Todd is on vacation. There is no real lockout news to update everyone on, but there is quite a bit of Steelers off field news to discuss with the arrest of receiver Hines Ward on suspicion of DUI early this past Saturday morning and the recent explosive article on linebacker James Harrison in the latest edition of Men's Journal. I briefly cover the topics before I am joined by Steelers beat writer Mark Kaboly from the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. The interview with Mark was done Wednesday afternoon right as the Harrison talk was Read more [...]
Maybe it was already planned and maybe it wasn't, but Steelers beat writer Scott Brown of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is reporting via Twitter that the Steelers held an organization-wide meeting on training camp today at the practice facility. Brown notes this as a positive sign and perhaps Art Rooney II has let them know that a new labor deal could be within reach soon. One can only hope though and the Rooney speculation is on my part. Prior to the lockout, the Steelers were scheduled to open up training camp at St. Vincent College in Latrobe in late July and college officials told WTAE earlier Read more [...]
I wrote Friday about the possibility that free agents Ike Taylor and William Gay could land with the Arizona Cardinals, should they trade cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to the Philadelphia Eagles for Kevin Kolb. Ron Wolfley of 620 KTAR said yesterday thinks Ike would be the perfect guy in the Cardinals system. Pick up the talk on Taylor at around the 13 minute mark below. Ron is the brother of Steelers radio man, Craig Wolfley. [audio:http://icestream.bonnint.net:8000/az/audio/2011/06/p_Doug_and_Wolf_20110627_8am.mp3] Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reporter John Harris thinks like many of Read more [...]
Steelers tackle Willie Colon was on Sirius NFL Radio this morning and told host Ross Tucker that he still wants to play for the Steelers even though they've passed up multiple opportunities to extend his contract. Colon told Tucker, "The Steelers do things their own way, and I'm not worried about the money. I just like being a mean SOB on Sundays." Colon went on to also say, "I'm chasing Super Bowl rings, not wedding rings." The way the new CBA is shaping up, it looks almost certain that Colon will finally get his chance to become an unrestricted free agent after missing out on being unrestricted Read more [...]

Steelers To Wear White Jerseys In Super Bowl XLV

The Steelers will be wearing their road white jerseys in Super Bowl XLV according to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. The Green Bay Packers have chosen to wear their home green jerseys as they get first choice due being the home team this year. The home team designation rotates between the AFC and NFC every year and this year it was the NFC turn at first dibs on jersey choice. The Steelers won Super Bowls IX, XL, and XLIII wearing their road whites and haven't worn their home black jerseys since a 27-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XXX.
