In 2005, the Pittsburgh Steelers won a Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks with receivers Hines Ward, Antwaan Randle El, and Cedrick Wilson. Again in 2008, the Steelers captured their sixth Lombardi against another NFC West opponent in the Arizona Cardinals with Ward, Santonio Holmes, and Nate Washington. Wilson, Randle El, and Washington were solid, Holmes was clutch, and Ward is a future Hall of Famer. Outside of Washington, none of these guys were burners who could successfully get vertical, but they were all reliable and able to be depended on for earning crucial first

The Pittsburgh Steelers head into their Sunday game against the Cleveland Browns looking to get their 12th win of the season. With a little help from the Cincinnati Bengals, they could get a first round bye as well should they take care of the Browns. This is the final regular season game of 2011, so there are also a few milestones in reach for a few Steelers players in this upcoming. Let's have a look at a few obvious and not so obvious ones and the chances each player has at reaching them.
Hines Ward - You would have to be hiding underneath a rock to not know that Ward needs just five receptions

Tim Benz of 105 The X had Steelers Director of Football Operations Kevin Colbert on for an interview this morning to discuss several current Steelers topics. Mid way through the interview Benz asked Colbert about the recent interest in free agent wide receivers Plaxico Burress and Jerricho Cotchery and if the interest in those two players was because the organization had concerns with the foot injury of Emmanuel Sanders. Benz followed up with a question on the depth of the cornerback position and if there are enough numbers to get the job done at that position as well.
Below is the transcript

It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that the Steelers have big concerns right now about the feet of second year wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders. Sanders broke his right foot in the team’s loss to Green Bay in the Super Bowl and then had another surgery on his left foot in the spring after he developed a stress fracture in it. The left foot still had not healed properly when he arrived at training camp and he had a procedure done that consisted of injecting bone marrow and calcium into his foot to help promote healing.
Sanders was slated to be the Steelers number 3 wide receiver

Thursday at Steelers camp was the day every football fan was waiting for and the Steelers even pushed back practice in hopes that the new labor agreement would be ratified. The CBA was finally ratified later this afternoon and now hopefully we will have 10 years of labor peace. It should be noted that the Steelers as a team voted against the ratification to make a statement. It was not a majority no vote according to Mark Kaboly, but it goes in books as a team no vote.
David Todd and I recorded a new episode of The Terrible Podcast today and it includes our interview Wednesday with undrafted

AT 6-4 and 220 pounds, Limas Sweed fits the mold of a dangerous receiver. He’s tall, physical, and fast. He was drafted in 2008 in the 2nd round as one of the most coveted receivers in that draft. He was taken just four picks after Desean Jackson, and was considered by many to be a first round talent. However, he fell to Pittsburgh because of a foot injury that lowered his draft hype; a pick at the time that was considered by many to be a steal.
The outside perception of Sweed is that he’s a bust. Steelers fans not following too closely may have even forgotten about

Season 2, Episode 4 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I start by looking at all the recent Steelers signings, 9 of their own unrestricted free agents, 2 of their restricted free agents and their first signing of a player from outside the organization which was announced on Tuesday morning in the form of tight end John Gilmore.
After that we get into the roster battles. This is the most important and most interesting topic throughout the preseason and we will be sharing out thoughts and opinions on every podcast from now until the 53-man roster is set in early September. We discuss

Various Steelers beat writers are reporting this morning that second year wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders has informed the media that he will remain sidelined for the next 3 weeks with a foot injury. Sanders had both feet operated during the offseason after suffering a broken bone in one of his feet during the Steelers loss to the Packers in the Super Bowl.
Sanders tried to practice during the first on field practice this past weekend, but reported foot discomfort afterwards and has been sidelined since. This might explain the Steelers recent interest in Plaxico Burress this past weekend as there

If you have been paying close attention this offseason it should be pretty clear what the Steelers plan was this offseason in regards to free agency. In reality it really is nothing different than what they normally do though as they re-sign their own free agents first and might sprinkle in another low profile free agent or two from another team for good measure.
The Steelers are a veteran team and that plays right into their favor this year due to the lockout. The teams that have new coaching staffs, new systems and new players will be at a big disadvantage due to the late running of free agency

Sunday was day 4 of Steelers training camp and once again the news got off to an early start as the Plaxico Burress watch is now over after he agreed to terms on a one year deal with the Jets for a little over $3 million. Perhaps the trip to Pittsburgh was just a ploy to drive his price tag up, but I am willing to bet the Steelers were not in the ballpark money wise. Whatever the reason was, it doesn't matter at this point.
The next bit of news we got right before practice started is that the Steelers had agreed to terms with cornerback William Gay on a one-year deal. No terms were announce, but

Plax Watch 2011 is officially over now as wide receiver Plaxico Burress has agreed to a one-year deal with the Jets for a little over $3 million. The Steelers certainly had interest in Burress as he visited Latrobe for most of the day on Saturday and Director of Football Operations Kevin Colbert said there was mutual interest on Saturday, but that interest evidently revolved around top dollar.
I have said all along that I did not think Burress would be back and the Steelers being up against the salary cap further hurt his chances of returning. Burress will be 34 years old by the time the season

Here we are three days into training camp and although there has not been much to report on, I figured I would take this time to give a few of my own thoughts of early camp happenings.
I am not hopping on the John Clay bandwagon until I see him attempt to do the little things needed to contribute. There is plenty of film on him running through big holes and some more of him fumbling, but there is not much else. He looks like a one dimensional back right now and until I see that he can pick up a blitz or carry out assignments without the ball, I am with holding judgment. Of course if he picks up

Season 2, Episode 3 of The Terrible Podcast is up and day 3 of Steelers training camp is in the books now. I am joined by Mark Kaboly from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review who had the epic Plaxico Burress watch going on Twitter today as he gave a play-by-play of the Burress visit. Make sure you are following him at @MarkKaboly_Trib. We talk about the Burress visit and the chances of him signing with the Steelers to get the interview off to a fast start. I ask Mark if he thinks the offseason foot surgeries that Emmanuel Sanders had is behind the interest in Burress. We talk about the Steelers salary

On Saturday, day 3 of training camp started off quickly again as Plaxico Burress was at Latrobe to visit with Mike Tomlin, Kevin Colbert, Omar Kahn and spend some time with his former teammates. Burress was at training camp most of the day Pittsburgh Tribune-Review beat writer Mark Kaboly had a PlaxWatch going throughout the afternoon with great coverage. Burress looked very comfortable per reports and appeared to have a one-on-one with Colbert and Kahn to perhaps talk numbers. Afterwards he was seen making several cell phone calls and smiling quite a bit. It would be easy to speculate that a deal

In addition to Plaxico Burress, veteran tight end Daniel Graham is also is visiting the Steelers today. The Steelers might be interested in signing him to back-up Heath Miller on the roster as unrestricted free agent Matt Spaeth will not be returning after he signed with the Bears a few days ago.
Graham is a former 2002 first round draft pick by the Patriots and was selected as the 21st overall choice. Graham recorded only 15 receptions for 150 yards, and one touchdown in his rookie year. He was named the Patriots offensive team captain in 2006, but was not brought back in 2007 and signed with
