I am a football junkie and have been since about the age of 4 according to my parents. Ed Bouchette reports this afternoon that a few more Steelers players were named as 2012 Pro Bowl alternates on Tuesday. We already knew that outside linebacker James Harrison was named a first alternate for the AFC at outside linebacker and that free safety Ryan Clark and outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley were also named as second alternates. The 2012 Pro Bowl 43-man rosters for both the AFC and NFC squads will be announced tonight at 7 p.m. on the NFL Network and the Pittsburgh Steelers look to have a few players that will make the AFC squad as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and wide receiver Mike Wallace both finished in the overall top 10 of the fan voting that closed last Monday. The Pro Bowl voting ended two days ago and the final fan voting results are in. Both the AFC and NFC Pro Bowl teams are based on the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches and each of the group’s vote counts one-third toward determining the rosters for each conference. There are just 5 days left in the 2011 Pro Bowl voting and the latest update of votes shows that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace has fallen out of the top 10 since we last updated on December 1st. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger remains in the top 10, but has slipped down to 10th place in overall votes with 745,835. Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons threw out the ceremonial first pitch in his hometown for the Florence RedWolves Friday night and nearly beaned the RedWolves mascot. It was announced just minutes ago that the Steelers have 3 players voted in to the 2011 Pro Bowl. Strong safety Troy Polamalu is the starting strong safety for the AFC and was also the leading defensive player vote getter in the fan voting. Linebacker James Harrison is one of the starting outside linebackers voted in and rookie center Maurkice Pouncey was selected as the backup center to Nick Mangold of the Jets. The NFL Pro Bowl voting is now open and you can vote online for your favorite Steelers player. Lawrence Timmons deserves a trip to Hawaii as do a few others on the team.
