Four Steelers Players In ESPN Top 20 Of Any Era NFL Poll Of Pro Football Hall Of Fame Panel

ESPN.com and ESPN The Magazine combined to put out list of the 20 current players who a 20-member Pro Football Hall of Fame panel and ESPN’s very own John Clayton believe could excel in any era of the NFL. The top 20 was finalized today and four current Pittsburgh Steelers players made the top 10. Finishing 10th was linebacker James Harrison, finishing 8th was wide receiver Hines Ward, finishing 3rd was quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and finishing 2nd was safety Troy Polamalu. Harrison finished 4th as far as linebackers went behind Patrick Willis (7th), Brian Urlacher (5th) and Ray Lewis (1st). Read more [...]

The Coordinators They Are A-Changin’

By Jeremy Hritz Bob Dylan said “the times they are a changin’.” If he is following AFC North football, he may be considering a lyrical revision. It looks like the Pittsburgh Steelers are not the only AFC North team that will begin the 2012 NFL season with a new coordinator. On Wednesday, Chuck Pagano, defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens, accepted the head coaching position of the Indianapolis Colts, taking over for the recently fired Jim Caldwell. Pagano, in his first year as the defensive coordinator for the Ravens, lead the defense to a third overall ranking in yards allowed, Read more [...]

AFC & NFC Championship Game Previews & Picks

Championship Sunday is here as the Baltimore Ravens take on the New England Patriots in the early AFC Championship game and the New York Giants take on the San Francisco 49ers in the late NFL Championship game. Here are my previews of both games and predictions for each. AFC Championship Game: Ravens at Patriots Preview: The Ravens want to slow this game with running back Ray Rice in hopes of keeping the Patriots high flying offense of Tom Brady off the field much like the Pittsburgh Steelers were able to do earlier this season. Ball control and time of possession will not be enough for the Read more [...]

Steelers Need Bengals Help For First Round Bye – AFC Playoff Picture Week 17 Scenarios

The Pittsburgh Steelers took care of the St. Louis Rams today at Heinz Field, but only received some possible future help in week 16 from the Indianapolis Colts Thursday night as they knocked off the Houston Texans with a last second touchdown. Heading into today, the Steelers needed to beat the Rams and hope that the Cleveland Browns could some how knock off the Baltimore Ravens to take the lead in the AFC North division. The Ravens held a 20-0 lead over the Browns, but let them back into the game in the 4th quarter. The Browns closed within 6 points with 8:30 left in the game, but they could Read more [...]

Ravens To Be Without Anquan Boldin Next Two Weeks

Word came out this morning that Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin will be sidelined the next two weeks after having surgery today to repair a torn meniscus. He is expected to miss the games against the Cleveland Browns, and more importantly, the week 17 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. This injury is pretty big news as the Ravens offense really could be even more one dimensional than they already are and they will rely even more now on running back Ray Rice to carry the load the final two weeks. The Ravens currently sit tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers atop the AFC North at 10-4, Read more [...]

Week 14 NFL Lines And Odds: Browns Vs. Steelers

The first line is out for the Pittsburgh Steelers Week 14 Thursday night game against the Cleveland Browns and the Steelers are favored by 15.5 points at home. The over/under point total for the game opened at 39.5. Both teams played Sunday as the Steelers took care of the Cincinnati Bengals 35-7 and the Browns lost to the Baltimore Ravens 24-10. The Steelers moved to 9-3 with the win, while the Browns dropped to 4-8. This will be the first of two meeting between the two teams this season as they will meet again to close out the season in Cleveland. The Steelers masterful win over the Read more [...]

Ravens Linebacker Ray Lewis Fined $20K For Helmet To Helmet Hit On Hines Ward

The fines continue to roll in from the Steelers Ravens game Sunday night as just after it was announced that Steelers free safety Ryan Clark had been fined $40K for his hit on Ravens tight end Ed Dickson, WNST radio in Baltimore reported that Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis has also been fined for his early second quarter helmet-to-helmet hit on Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward. Ward was down for some time following the hit and had to be helped off the field because of concussion-like symptoms and did not return to the game. Lewis was not flagged on the play and you can see a picture of the initially Read more [...]

Ryan Clark Fined $40K For Hit In Ravens Game

Mark Kaboly is reporting via Twitter that Steelers free safety Ryan Clark has been fine $40K this week for a hit or perhaps even two in the game this past Sunday night against the Ravens. This makes the second consecutive game that Clark has been fined for as he was docked $15K for an out of bounds hit on Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski the week before. Kaboly also reports that Clark is not very happy about the fine and Clark even said in a radio interview Tuesday night that he has no intentions in sitting down with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to discuss anything should he end up being fined. Report: James Harrison Likely To Be Fined For Helmet To Helmet Hit On Ray Rice

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported tonight during halftime of the Eagles Bears Monday night football game that Steelers linebacker James Harrison will likely join teammate Ryan Clark and Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis as players that might be fined for hits during the Steelers Ravens Sunday night game. I detailed the hits by both Clark and Lewis last night, but it was not until tonight that I decided to go back and look at the tape again to see the hit that Schefter was referencing in his report. The hit in question happened with 8:36 left in the third quarter after Ravens running back Ray Read more [...]

More Steelers Ravens Observations

As I do every week, here are more of my observations from the Steelers loss to the Baltimore Ravens last night after going back through the game now. I will have much, more content from this game later on today. I mentioned it before and certainly understand the reasoning why Mike Tomlin defers when he wins the toss, but I still do not like it. It is not like the defense needs a boost of confidence. I would rather see the offense get lathered up first to start the game. The game looked like it was going to get off to a similar start as week 1, only worse, as Ray Rice went 76 yards for a touchdown. Read more [...]

Steelers Lose 23-20 To Ravens – Game Recap

The Steelers suffered a regular season sweep to the Baltimore Ravens Sunday night at Heinz Field as quarterback Joe Flacco hit wide receiver Torrey Smith in the deep right corner of the endzone for a game winning 26-yard touchdown with 8 seconds left in the game to give the Ravens a 23-20 win. Smith got behind cornerback William Gay for the touchdown and Ryan Clark was late getting over to provide help. The Steelers took a 20-16 lead with just under 5 minutes left in the game as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger scrambled and hit Mike Wallace for a 25-yard touchdown on 3rd down. The Steelers defense Read more [...]

Week 9 – 7 Things To Look For Against The Ravens & Game Prediction

Here we go again! Steelers Ravens re-match and I do not think this game will let down the prime-time viewership. The Ravens really took it to the Steelers back in week as they ran away with a 35-7 win. The Steelers did not help their own cause in the game by turning the ball over 7 times. So many things have changed since week 1 as the defensive line has a different starter and the offensive line has 3 different pieces. The Steelers have key linebacker injuries, but also get back a few linebackers that have been out a while. Should the Steelers win this game, it will give them a firm 1 game lead Read more [...]

The Terrible Podcast – Ravens Beat Writer John Eisenberg Episode

Season 2, Episode 38 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I jump right into the show by going over the Mike Tomlin press conference from yesterday and talk about who we think is in and out this week. We both do not have have any reason to believe LaMarr Woodley, James Farrior or James Harrison will go Sunday night, but still hope that Jason Worilds decides this is the week he returns. We discuss the Steelers defense as it relates to the injuries and talk about the options that Tomlin threw out yesterday. I also break down why rookie Chris Carter should not be an option this week unless Read more [...]

Steelers Ravens Week 9 Line Opens With Pittsburgh Slight Favorites

When the Steelers take on the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday night at Heinz Field, first place in the AFC North will be up for grabs. The Steelers have reeled off four straight wins heading into this game with their last loss coming against the Texans back in week 4 on the road. The Ravens are coming off of a home victory over the Cardinals, but it was not easy as they trailed 24-3 at halftime. They held the Cardinals to just 3 points in the second half and running back Ray Rice scored 3 touchdowns to power the 30-27 come from behind win. The Steelers Ravens betting line opened with the Steeler Read more [...]
