Here we go again! Steelers Ravens re-match and I do not think this game will let down the prime-time viewership. The Ravens really took it to the Steelers back in week as they ran away with a 35-7 win. The Steelers did not help their own cause in the game by turning the ball over 7 times. So many things have changed since week 1 as the defensive line has a different starter and the offensive line has 3 different pieces. The Steelers have key linebacker injuries, but also get back a few linebackers that have been out a while. Should the Steelers win this game, it will give them a firm 1 game lead Read more [...]
Season 2, Episode 38 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I jump right into the show by going over the Mike Tomlin press conference from yesterday and talk about who we think is in and out this week. We both do not have have any reason to believe LaMarr Woodley, James Farrior or James Harrison will go Sunday night, but still hope that Jason Worilds decides this is the week he returns. We discuss the Steelers defense as it relates to the injuries and talk about the options that Tomlin threw out yesterday. I also break down why rookie Chris Carter should not be an option this week unless Read more [...]
When the Steelers take on the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday night at Heinz Field, first place in the AFC North will be up for grabs. The Steelers have reeled off four straight wins heading into this game with their last loss coming against the Texans back in week 4 on the road. The Ravens are coming off of a home victory over the Cardinals, but it was not easy as they trailed 24-3 at halftime. They held the Cardinals to just 3 points in the second half and running back Ray Rice scored 3 touchdowns to power the 30-27 come from behind win. The Steelers Ravens betting line opened with the Steeler Read more [...]
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin gave his normal injury update today during his usual Tuesday press conference today, but he only ruled out guard Doug Legursky for the Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens so far. Tomlin tried to make it seem like linebackers James Harrison, James Farrior and LaMarr Woodley all have an outside chance of playing this week, but in reality that is likely far fetched based on the other reports floating around. Harrison himself has stated he will not play on Sunday and both Farrior and Woodley are rumored to miss several weeks. Farrior has a bad calf injury and Woodley Read more [...]
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin held his usual Tuesday press conference this afternoon to talk about the win Sunday over the New England Patriots and preview the upcoming home game this Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens. Tomlin also updated the injury report heading into the game. You can hear the audio of the press conference below and I will be updating the post with the main talking points. [audio:http://www.steelersdepot.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/mike-tomlin-week-9-ravens-press-conference.mp3] Tomlin said it was good to get a win Sunday against the Patriots and thought that Read more [...]

Week 3 – 7 Things To Look For Against The Colts

The Steelers take on the Indianapolis Colts Sunday night as they try to move to 2-1 on the young season. The Colts on the other hand are trying to avoid the 0-3 death punch with quarterback Peyton Manning still out with his neck problem. The Steelers are a 10.5 point favorite on the road against a Colts team that has numerous injuries besides Manning. As I do each and every week, here are my 7 things to watch for this week if the Steelers want to win the game along with my score prediction at the end of the keys to the game. I will have my week 3 picks and predictions up for the other games later Read more [...]
Only 2 games are in the books so far so it is hard to draw any hard conclusions from the play direction stats below. The thing that jumps out though on offense is the short passing game numbers versus the deep passing numbers as the Baltimore Ravens and Seattle Seahawks were concerned about Mike Wallace beating them deep. The Steelers have been able to work the short areas nicely with all four receivers for the most part. Going forward, the Steelers need to be able to run the ball better against teams that choose to keep the safeties deep and guard against the explosive play. As far as the defense Read more [...]

Week 2 – 7 Things To Look For Against The Seahawks

The Steelers come off of a week 1 road drubbing against the Ravens and get the Seattle Seahawks at home as get well medicine. The Seahawks played a close game against the 49ers in week 1, but their special teams gave way the game. The Steelers are right around two touchdown favorites heading into this game and nothing helps forget a blowout loss more than blowing out the team you face the next week. As I do every week, here are my 7 things to watch for on Sunday as the Steelers host the Seahawks at Heinz Field along with my final score prediction. Special Sunday - The Seahawks special teams unit Read more [...]

Steelers Players Accuse Ravens Of Illegal Chop Blocks

Several Steelers players are speaking out about a few of the blocks used on nose tackle Casey Hampton on Sunday in Baltimore and are accusing them of chop blocking Hampton. If you read my post game observations the day after the 35-7 loss I noted how much the Ravens cut block, but did not look closely at whether or not they were indeed chop blocks as I had several other things to chart and observe in the game. Ed Bouchette reported this afternoon that linebackers Lawrence Timmons and James Farrior both agree that Hampton was being chopped or at least attempted several times to be chopped. A Read more [...]
Season 2, Episode 15 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and go over the 35-7 butt kicking the Steelers took at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens yesterday and explain how the Ravens were able to get it done. It is an early morning podcast, but we both agree that the Steelers pass rush was not good and that Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco was given plenty of time to hit Ray Rice and his young tight ends most of the game at will. Also Rice killed us on the ground. We take a look at the few players who were bright spots in the loss like Ike Taylor and talk about those that had bad showings. Read more [...]

More Steelers Ravens Observations

I did not get too many of my observations in the game recap yesterday as I wanted to go back through the game a few times to pick it apart more. I watched it again a few times last night while doing some charting and here are a few notable observations and not many of them are earth shattering as to what my eyes saw live. The pass rush on the edge was just not there and the Ravens did a great job picking up the blitz with all everything fullback Vonta Leach and the young Ravens tight ends also blocked much better than I thought they would have. You can not give any quarterback that much time Read more [...]
The Steelers lost Sunday 35-7 to the Baltimore Ravens in week 1 of the 2011 season and it was not pretty. The Steelers offense turned the ball over 7 times and the defense allowed 6 explosive plays of 20 yards or more in the loss. The Ravens tight ends and running back Ray Rice caused havoc for the Steelers on the day as Rice rushed for 107 yards and chipped in another 42 yards in catches. The Ravens tight ends had 7 catches for 104 yards and one touchdown on the day and Anquan Boldin added 4 catches of his own for 74 yards and a touchdown. Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco finally got a win against Read more [...]

Week 1 – 7 Things To Look For Against The Ravens

Here we go with week 1 of the 2011 season and what a way to begin it. There is never a great time to play the Baltimore Ravens, but if there were, it would be week 1 with all of the changes that the Ravens have made coming out of a lockout that resulted in missed mini-camps and OTA sessions. The Steelers only have 7 new players on the roster with 6 of them being rookies. After a slow start in week 1 of the preseason against the Redskins, the Steelers really came together quickly on both sides of the ball and look very prepared to start the season with a bang. As I do every week of the season, here Read more [...]

Steelers 2011 Game By Game Schedule Breakdown

The Steelers 2011 season kicks off this Sunday and I have purposely waited until now to post a game by game quick look ahead at the Steelers 2011 schedule. The free agent moves and final roster cuts have taken place around the league and it provides a much clearer look at where teams are at that the Steelers will face this year. I will not go too much into depth with each game and will try to capsulize each. So many things can change the further you get into the season and you never can predict injuries that may occur along the way. With all of those disclaimers out of the way, here is a quick Read more [...]
John Harris reports that linebacker James Harrison is probably about 80-85 percent right now according to his agent Bill Parise. Harrison has undergone two back procedures this offseason. [phpbay]Steelers James Harrison, 3, "", ""[/phpbay] Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall is suing Hanesbrands for ending their endorsement deal with him a few months back because of his 9/11 tweet. Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons says he isn’t worried that the lockerroom will get divided because of the comments made by Harrison recently in Men's Journal. Timmons compared the team to a family. Read more [...]
