Linebacker Renauld Williams was with the Steelers last training camp is now back in the CFL with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, but speaks highly about the brief time he got to play under defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau.

The Steelers released 10 players from their preseason roster today in an effort to get down to the NFL’s 53-man limit for the regular season. None of the players released were surprising cuts as TE Eugene Bright, G Dorian Brooks, T Kyle Jolly, WR Brandon London, TE Sean McHugh, DT Scott Paxson, LS Matt Stewart, S Justin Thornton, RB Justin Vincent and LB Renauld Williams were all released. The Steelers trimmed down to 75 players on Tuesday morning and now will need to cut 21 more by September 4th. Why 21 and not 22 you ask? This is because quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be moved to the reserve/suspended list, so technically that will not be a cut. I have listed 10 players that will likely be seeing the Turk soon and 16 players who could be considered on the bubble right now in my opinion. None of these are locked in stone mind you and this list is for entertainment purposes only, so no one get your feelings hurt until the cuts are made as ANYTHING can happen in these final days

The Steelers will announce on Thursday that they have reached an agreement with 2010 2nd round draft pick Jason Worilds on a 4 year, 3.7 million dollar contract believed to include 1.9 million in guaranteed monies. Per club policy, the official numbers will not be available until filed with the NFLPA, but the Virginia Tech product will be signed on time and ready to report to Latrobe on Friday for the start of training camp. The Steelers will need to release a player from the roster to make room for Worilds and speculation is that either linebackers Johnny Williams or Renauld Williams will be released.

Buffalo News writer, Allen Wilson, has his first mock draft of 2010 up and has the Steelers taking Mike Iupati from Idaho. If the Steelers do indeed draft offense with the first round pick, I can see Iupati being it right now. However, I am still thinking we draft defense first at this point in time.

The Steelers continued signing free agents to their offseason roster on Friday as Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Renauld Williams was signed to a futures contract. Williams played 3 season in the CFL with Saskatchewan and recorded 97 tackles along with 29 special teams tackles in that time. He also recorded 6 quarterback sacks in his 3 years in the CFL. Williams spent three years at Hofstra University where he finished with 233 career tackles while playing linebacker and defensive end.
