The questions are rolling in about the Pittsburgh Steelers 2012 free agents so I threw together a quick rundown of the restricted, unrestricted and exclusive rights free agents as the Steelers head into the offseason. The 6 restricted free agents will all certainly be tendered with only Mike Wallace receiving a first round tender. The other 5 will receive the lowest one year tenders. These amounts have not yet been released and I will post those amounts later in the offseason when they are made known. Both exclusive right free agents have no choice but to accept their tender offers and they can't

To finish up some housekeeping before the Steelers 2011 season gets underway, here is the list of Steelers players that will be free agents and whether or not they are restricted, unrestricted or exclusive rights free agents. All of these players are in the final year under contract in 2011. Exclusive free agents must accept the minimum tendered them, so that means Isaac Redman and Steve McLendon are almost certain to return if wanted. Mike Wallace will likely be given the highest tender possibly, while David Johnson, Doug Legursky, Ramon Foster, Keenan Lewis and Ryan Mundy tenders will depend

Now that the CBA has been ratified, the Steelers made several signings official and released several players for the needed roster spot. It was officially announced that cornerback William Gay, nose tackle Chris Hoke, running back Mewelde Moore and punter Daniel Sepulveda have all been re-signed to one-year deals as unrestricted free agents. Unrestricted tight end John Gilmore signed his one-year contract and long snapper Greg Warren, also an unrestricted free agent, signed a two-year deal. The news rolls on as Ed Bouchette now reports that linebacker James Harrison has agreed to restructure his contract to help the Steelers get under the salary cap. The Steelers are reportedly still trying to restructure a few more contracts in addition to Harrison and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. It was learned a short while ago that Roethlisberger would restructure his by turning base salary money into signing bonus money. ESPN AFC North blogger James Walker is reporting that Steelers restricted free agent quarterback Dennis Dixon will sign his one-year restricted free-agent tender. The move is expected as early as today according to the report, which will allow Dixon to practice later this week.
Dixon's agent Jeff Sperbeck said that the desire for a trade and an opportunity to compete for a starting job elsewhere remains the same, but added it was in the best interest for Dixon to get into training camp before he missed even more time.
The Steelers tendered Dixon at a fifth-round level before the lockout started

Steelers restricted free agent quarterback Dennis Dixon has yet to sign is tender and his agent Jeff Sperbeck told ESPN that his client would prefer a chance to compete elsewhere rather than be a backup for the Steelers this year. "Dennis would love the opportunity to start," Sperbeck said. "Yes, we would look forward to an opportunity for a trade -- it's a starting opportunity we're looking for."
The Steelers placed a fifth-round tender of around $1.2 million on Dixon prior to the lockout and he can entertain offers from others teams until until Aug. 20 and then his rights revert back exclusively

Steelers tackle Tony Hills has signed his restricted free agent tender today according to a tweet by Mark Kaboly. The one year restricted tender is believed to be around $1.2 million and it includes no bonus. Hills probably knows he is on the wrong side of the bubble and that he he needs to get back on the field as soon as possible to fight for a spot on the Steelers 53 man roster. He can't practice until Aug. 4th though because of rules in the new CBA.
Since being drafted by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL Draft, Hills has been a huge disappointment and has not shown very much

During the Steelers pre draft press conference today Steelers Director of Football Operations Kevin Colbert said, "We're going to pick based on our team as it currently stands," Colbert said. "I don't know how it currently stands because there's different possibilities that exist. But when the lockout began this is our team as we know it, and we're going to draft accordingly."
What Colbert was of course eluding to are the several free agents the Steelers have that are up in the air. Most notably are the ones who's free agent status depends on the outcome of a new CBA like tackle Willie Colon,
