It was announced earlier today that Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco was fined $7,500 for his horse-collar tackle of Seahawks linebacker David Hawthorne in the third quarter of the Ravens 22-17 loss to Seattle last Sunday. The tackle happened after Flacco threw a pass that ended up being intercepted by Hawthorne. While I am glad to see Flacco was fined, it is curious as to why he was fined half what Steelers safety Troy Polamalu was fined for his horse-collar tackle on Ravens running back Ricky Williams back in week 1. Polamalu was fined $15,000 for his tackle. The minimum for such fine is $15,000 Read more [...]
Here we go again! Steelers Ravens re-match and I do not think this game will let down the prime-time viewership. The Ravens really took it to the Steelers back in week as they ran away with a 35-7 win. The Steelers did not help their own cause in the game by turning the ball over 7 times. So many things have changed since week 1 as the defensive line has a different starter and the offensive line has 3 different pieces. The Steelers have key linebacker injuries, but also get back a few linebackers that have been out a while. Should the Steelers win this game, it will give them a firm 1 game lead Read more [...]
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin gave his normal injury update today during his usual Tuesday press conference today, but he only ruled out guard Doug Legursky for the Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens so far. Tomlin tried to make it seem like linebackers James Harrison, James Farrior and LaMarr Woodley all have an outside chance of playing this week, but in reality that is likely far fetched based on the other reports floating around. Harrison himself has stated he will not play on Sunday and both Farrior and Woodley are rumored to miss several weeks. Farrior has a bad calf injury and Woodley Read more [...]
No real surprises here, but the NFL has fined Steelers safety Troy Polamalu 10K for using a cell phone on the sideline last weekend after leaving the game against the Jaguars with concussion-like symptoms. Polamalu was handed the phone by a team trainer reportedly so he could call his wife to let her know he was fine. The league rule on the fine says that possession of cell phones, PDAs or other electronic equipment in the bench area during a game is strictly prohibited by league policy beginning 90 minutes before kickoff through the end of the game. Polamalu had no comment on the fine when Read more [...]

Week 3 – 7 Things To Look For Against The Colts

The Steelers take on the Indianapolis Colts Sunday night as they try to move to 2-1 on the young season. The Colts on the other hand are trying to avoid the 0-3 death punch with quarterback Peyton Manning still out with his neck problem. The Steelers are a 10.5 point favorite on the road against a Colts team that has numerous injuries besides Manning. As I do each and every week, here are my 7 things to watch for this week if the Steelers want to win the game along with my score prediction at the end of the keys to the game. I will have my week 3 picks and predictions up for the other games later Read more [...]
Only 2 games are in the books so far so it is hard to draw any hard conclusions from the play direction stats below. The thing that jumps out though on offense is the short passing game numbers versus the deep passing numbers as the Baltimore Ravens and Seattle Seahawks were concerned about Mike Wallace beating them deep. The Steelers have been able to work the short areas nicely with all four receivers for the most part. Going forward, the Steelers need to be able to run the ball better against teams that choose to keep the safeties deep and guard against the explosive play. As far as the defense Read more [...]

Doug Legursky Fined $10K For Clipping Against Seahawks

Steelers right guard Doug Legursky has been fined $10,000 for a personal foul clip on Seahawks defensive tackle Al Woods during the third quarter of Sunday's game according to Mark Kaboly. Legursky clipped Woods from behind on a 1st & 10 pass play to running back Rashard Mendenhall. Legursky was flagged 15 yards on the play. According to Scott Brown, Legursky will appeal the fine. Legursky is the 3rd Steelers player fined this season as safety Troy Polamalu was fined $15,000 last week for unnecessary roughness for his horse-collar tackle on Ravens running back Ricky Williams. Also fined in week Read more [...]
Steelers safety Troy Polamalu was not the only Steelers player to get fined in the game against the Ravens as cornerback Ike Taylor was also fined for his head butt incident in the 4th quarter when the game started to get real chippy. We mentioned a few days ago that Polamalu was fined $15K for the horse-collar tackle on Ravens running back Ricky Williams in the game and that seems to be the going rate this year now as it has also been announced that Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo was also fined $15K for his horse-collar tackle on Antonio Brown early in the game. Read more [...]
Sources have told me that Steelers safety Troy Polamalu has been fined $15,000 for his horse collar tackle of Ravens running back Ricky Williams this past Sunday. The play happened at the 4:14 mark of the 3rd quarter when Williams went off left guard for 13 yards. Polamalu was flagged 15-yards on the play. Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo also was flagged for a horse collar tackle on Antonio Brown earlier in the game during the kick-off following the Ravens first touchdown and there is no word yet that he has been fined for that play. Polamula has been pretty vocal about the fine process Read more [...]
The end of the lockout seems ever so close and the free agent signing period could now be less than a week away by many accounts. The Steelers have some housekeeping of their own to do right of the bat to get under the salary cap and I have posted in depth about that over the last few weeks. The Steelers once again do not look poised to make a huge splash in the free agent market other than possibly attempting to re-sign a few of their own free agents like cornerback Ike Taylor and tackle Willie Colon, but they could indeed be in the market for a third down type back if unrestricted free agent Read more [...]

If the Steelers want any chance of making the playoffs, it must start with a win in Miami. The defense needs to keep the Wildcat offense of the Dolphins in check and the linebackers will get a workout today. Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne is vulnerable to the sack and the Steelers defense needs to be in his face all day. Dolphins running back Ricky Williams is banged up coming into the game and must pay for every yard he gets. Nose tackle Casey Hampton will be tested up the middle in what could be his final game in a Steelers uniform. The Dolphins offense must be put in obvious passing situations Read more [...]
The Steelers wrapped up their practice preparations on Friday for the upcoming Sunday game versus the Miami Dolphins. Defensive end Brett Keisel (neck) did not practice for a third straight day and is listed as questionable on the injury report. Guard Chris Kemoeatu (wrist) and safety Troy Polamalu (knee) were both limited again on Friday and both are listed as questionable. It is still highly unlikely Polamalu will play this week. Linebacker Rocky Boiman (calf), defensive end Travis Kirschke (calf), running back Willie Parker (shoulder) and wide receiver Hines Ward (hamstring) all practiced fully Read more [...]
The Steelers continued their practice preparations on Thursday for the upcoming Sunday game versus the Miami Dolphins. Defensive end Brett Keisel (neck) and wide receiver Hines Ward (hamstring) both sat out for a second straight day of practice. Both are hopefully to work in some capacity on Friday and likely will be game time decisions on Sunday. Guard Chris Kemoeatu (wrist) was limited on Thursday after sitting out on Wednesday and safety Troy Polamalu (knee) was also limited for a second consecutive day. It is still highly unlikely Polamalu will play this week. Linebacker Rocky Boiman (calf), Read more [...]
The Steelers began practice preparations on Wednesday for the week 17 game in Miami versus the Dolphins. Linebacker James Farrior (not injury related), defensive end Brett Keisel (neck), guard Chris Kemoeatu (wrist), defensive end Travis Kirschke (calf) and wide receiver Hines Ward (hamstring) all sat out practice on Wednesday. Linebacker Rocky Boiman (calf), running back Willie Parker (shoulder) and safety Troy Polamalu (knee) all practiced on a limited basis. Polamalu working was the best news of the day, but he did not work in the contact portion of practice. Thursday and Friday are still key Read more [...]
