Ok, we are now three games through the preseason games and the Steelers are licking their wounds after losing to the Broncos Sunday night. I have just finished watching the replay for a 3rd time and am ready to release my latest 53 man roster prediction. Below are the changes and the reasoning for the add and drops. The only real change I made this week from last week, is to add Jonathan Dwyer back to the 53 man roster and have cut fullback Frank Summers. It is not so much that Dwyer had a better showing last night, which he did, as much as Summers is not playing well and they just do not need Read more [...]
Ok, we are now half way through preseason games and training camp has officially broken. We have had quite a bit of game footage and information to digest and I am ready to revamp my 53 man roster prediction as the Steelers head into week 3 of the preseason against the Denver Broncos. Below are the changes and the reasoning for the add and drops. There is no need to keep Justin Hartwig now. I wrote about this way back on July 1st that he was not a lock and it looks like it is coming to fruition. Maurkice Pouncey is ready and Doug Legursky can back him up. Sure, Hartwig played guard before, but Read more [...]
Ok, the mini camps and OTA's are now over and we are just 8 days away from training camp opening in Latrobe for the Steelers. On April 24th, I took my first offseason guess at the 53 man roster and quite a bit has changed over 3 months. Willie Colon is out for the year and draft pick Chris Scott looks to miss much of if not all of camp with a foot injury. I replaced them with Jonathan Scott and Tony Hills respectively and added Doug Legursky as it is evident Maurkice Pouncey is destined to work at guard initially. Nick Eason was scratched to make room for Crezdon Butler, who I now think will make Read more [...]

Why 91 On The Steelers Roster?

I was asked via email why the Steelers now have 91 players on the roster. That 91 really is a floating number. NFL teams are only allowed 80 signed players on a roster at any given time. You see, the Steelers drafted 10 players, but none of those 10 players are under contract yet. The Steelers have now signed 9 undrafted free agents after today's signing of Bradley Vierling. As the draft picks are signed, one of the undrafted players or offseason signed free agents will be released to make room. I know what you are thinking though, numbers still add up to 81 though. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger Read more [...]

2010 Steelers Pre Camp Roster

Ok, all of the 2010 Steelers draft picks are in along with undrafted free agent signings. Below is the current Steelers roster pre training cam and mini camp. Currently there are 89 players on this roster and this number will be paired down to the NFL mandated number of 80 by the time the team reports to training camp in Latrobe. As the draft picks are signed, expect one of the offseason free agents to be released as time goes on. This roster will be very fluid for a while with lots of movement likely over the next 60 days. Updated: It seems we have roster spot 90 now as it is being circulated Read more [...]

2010 Steelers 53 Man Roster Prediction

Ok, the draft is over, we have a good idea who the undrafted free agents are and mini camps have not even started yet. What a perfect time to throw out our best prediction of what the 53 man roster will look like. Ok, I lied! 54 man roster. Big Ben will start on the reserve suspended list and will not count as a roster spot. That means I have 54 on this list. Barring injury or any other unforeseen circumstance, here is my guess below. 2010 Steelers 53 Man Roster Prediction Hartwig, Justin C Pouncey, Maurkice C/G Burnett, Joe CB Gay, William CB Lewis, Keenan CB McFadden, Read more [...]

Steelers 2010 Salary Cap & State Of The Roster

It is that time of year again. All of the tenders and tags have been assigned and at midnight Thursday, free agency begins for the NFL. It is time for a look at the 2010 roster of players under contract or tender offer and a look at the projected 2010 Steelers salary cap numbers. At this time, there will be no salary cap for the 2010 season, but the Steelers have said regardless that they intend to treat the season as if there were one in place. The only questionable player below is Patrick Bailey, as he was an exclusive rights free agent and no word has come out about his status. I do however Read more [...]
