Troy Polamalu is the 6th most marketable player in the NFL, according to an exclusive survey of sports business execs, analysts and media members conducted by Street and Smith’s Sports Business Daily. Gerry Dulac thinks the interview given to Todd Haley was made very public for a reason and thus he thinks the chances of Haley getting the offensive coordinator Read more [...]

Don’t Look Back; Look Ahead

By Jeremy Hritz Right now, it still hurts for Steelers fans. Two of our most hated opponents will battle for the AFC crown that we proudly wore last year. And in the NFC, we have to watch the other hated Harbaugh and the Eli Manning-led New York Giants. While Sunday will no doubt be agonizing as it reminds us of what could have been, it is time to move on. And what better way to do so than taking a closer look at the 2012-2013 Steelers' opponents. Opponents’ 2011 Records: 103-105 (.495) 2011 Playoff Opponents on 2012 Schedule: 4 - Baltimore, Cincinnati, Denver, New York Giants Divisional Read more [...]
Peter King wrote in his MMQB piece how the New York Giants would have been fine drafting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger if San Diego Chargers GM A.J. Smith had played hardball with then-Giants GM Ernie Accorsi as the clock wound down on the fourth overall pick of the 2004 NFL Draft. Hines Ward was on NFL Total Access yesterday and talked about losing to the Denver Broncos and how he still wants to continue to play for the Steelers. Tackle Marcus Gilbert talked with Teresa Varley of Steelers.com at the end of the season about what he learned his rookie season. Mike Bires asked wide receiver Read more [...]

Smith measures in at around 5 foot 9 and weighs 192 pounds. Smith was an All-Big Ten selection while at Ohio State following a senior campaign where he made 71 tackles, second-best on the team. He also was an accomplished special teams player covering Read more [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Cleveland Browns 13-9 today in Cleveland and will travel to Denver next week to take on the Denver Broncos in one of the two AFC wild card games. Despite the win, the Steelers did not get the help they needed from the Cincinnati Bengals to capture the AFC North as the Bengals lost to the Baltimore Ravens 24-16. The Ravens win means they have won the AFC North and the #2 seed in the AFC. The New England Patriots are the #1 seed after they beat the Buffalo Bills today. The Broncos won the AFC West despite losing 7-3 to the Kansas City Chiefs today as the Oakland Read more [...]
Some new details are now coming out about what may have led to Pittsburgh Steelers rookie right tackle Marcus Gilbert being benched Saturday against the St. Louis Rams. Steelers Digest editor Bob Labriola said today on his podcast that Gilbert had arrived to the Steelers facility early one morning this past week and had some breakfast prior to a scheduled meeting. When Gilbert finished his breakfast it was still not time for the meeting to start so he went down to the players lounge, sat in a chair and subsequently fell asleep. Labriola reports that was where Gilbert was when the meeting started. Read more [...]

Below are the Adjusted Net Yards Per Passing Attempt Differential Stats from week 15 and you can see that the top 3 from last week, the Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers, all saw their differential lower in week 15. The Texans dipped down now under the 3.0 mark and the Steelers dipped back under the 2.0 differential number. The Steelers dip is mostly because of the 3 interception, 3 sack and no touchdown night that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers as their defensive ANY/A just barely went up. Steelers Versus 49ers – Who Would Have Thought?

Who would have thought before the season started that the Pittsburgh Steelers game tonight against the San Francisco 49ers would be a huge deciding game as far as it relates to the Steelers ability to take control of the AFC, and perhaps home field advantage throughout the playoffs? Who would have thought that the 49ers would be 10-3 at this point of season with their own destiny in their hands as far as a first round bye of their own goes? Who would have thought that the 49ers would be the home favorite in this game and that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger would be a game-time decision Read more [...]
Gerry Dulac is reporting tonight that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is now expected to start Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers at Candlestick Park with his injured left ankle. Dulac reports that the decision to start Roethlisberger had nothing to with the Baltimore Ravens Sunday night loss to the San Diego Chargers. The loss by both the Ravens and the Houston Texans on Sunday put the Steelers in control of their own destiny as far as the number one overall seed in the AFC goes. With that seed comes home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Roehtlisberger is Read more [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers head into their Monday night game against the San Francisco 49ers knowing that they now control their own destiny in regards to the number one seed in the AFC and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The chance to control their own destiny comes after the Baltimore Ravens lost tonight 34-14 on the road to the San Diego Chargers, and that loss now drops them to 10-4 on the season. That loss combined with the Houston Texans loss earlier in the day against the Carolina Panthers now means that the Steelers could have a full game lead on both teams if they can take care Read more [...]
The New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens both clinched spots in the 2011 playoffs this evening as the Patriots beat the Denver Broncos 41-23 in Denver to clinch the AFC East, and the Ravens clinched a playoff spot in addition. There were several scenarios that could have helped the Ravens today and they had their pick of them to choose from as the Broncos, New York Jets, Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans all lost today. Heading into the weekend only the Houston Texans had clinched a playoff spot on the AFC side and they were joined by the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier in the day as Read more [...]
The Pittsburgh Steelers have clinched a spot in the 2011 NFL playoffs thanks to the Indianapolis Colts getting their first win of the season at home against the Tennessee Titans 27-13. The Steelers came into the week with multiple scenarios in place that would have allowed them to clinch a playoff spot. Those scenarios included either them winning Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers, or by the Titans, Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders or New York Jets losing today, or a tie by either the Titans or Raiders. The Titans loss did the trick. The Steelers chances at getting the number 1 seed, Read more [...]
The Monday night game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the San Francisco 49ers will be short several key players as the Steelers will be without center Maurkice Pouncey, linebacker James Harrison and possibly even quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and the 49ers look to be missing their best linebacker Patrick Willis. Should the Baltimore Ravens lose Sunday night to the San Diego Chargers, the Steelers will have a chance to take back over the lead in the AFC North with a win. The 49ers are still fighting to preserve a first round bye in the playoffs and recover from their loss last week against Read more [...]
