In 2005, the Pittsburgh Steelers won a Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks with receivers Hines Ward, Antwaan Randle El, and Cedrick Wilson. Again in 2008, the Steelers captured their sixth Lombardi against another NFC West opponent in the Arizona Cardinals with Ward, Santonio Holmes, and Nate Washington. Wilson, Randle El, and Washington were solid, Holmes was clutch, and Ward is a future Hall of Famer. Outside of Washington, none of these guys were burners who could successfully get vertical, but they were all reliable and able to be depended on for earning crucial first

This is the final regular season game of 2011, so there are also a few milestones in reach for a few Steelers players in this upcoming. Let's have a look at a few obvious and not so obvious ones and the chances each player has at reaching them.

As many know by now, Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward was arrested early this morning for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol in Dekalb County, Georgia. Ward bonded out and is expected to release a statement later on today. Ward's manager told TMZ this afternoon, "He cooperated fully with the police and truthfully answered all of their questions. We are currently in the process of ascertaining all the facts. From our preliminary investigation we can tell you that we are confident that the facts will show that Hines was NOT impaired by alcohol while driving." He went on to say,

Let me start off by saying this post is mere speculation and not an attempt to take a jab at Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall and his Twitter comments regarding Osama bin Laden and the events of 911. This post moves past those remarks and deals with how Art Rooney II and the Steelers organization might deal with Mendenhall and his remarks regardless of how you or I feel about them.
The Steelers organization hates to be viewed in a negative light and they try their best not to be cast in a negative spot light. In short, they want to be known as a class organization. While Mendenhall certainly

Kevin Colbert loves value and especially so with his first round selections. Below is a quick history of the first rounders he has drafted since taking over in 2000 and the positional value those players offered. At the end I offer up a few players that fit the mold as both positional values that also fit perhaps a need. This is an exercise of positional value only, so don’t get too upset.
2000 - WR Plaxico Burress - This was the first draft for Colbert and after they selected Burress 8th overall, head coach Bill Cowher said they drafted him because they needed a playmaker. Burress was a top

One year ago today news leaked out that the Steelers had traded wide receiver Santonio Holmes to the New York Jets in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Steeler Nation was pretty upset with the move and certainly felt that Holmes was worth more than just the bag of donuts they got in the deal. The Steelers subsequently traded that pick they received from the Jets to the Arizona Cardinals on draft day for former Steelers cornerback Bryant McFadden and the Cardinals sixth-round pick. That sixth-round pick was used to draft Antonio Brown.
One year later Holmes is back in the

It is April and perhaps time for the Steelers to draft yet another wide receiver in the upcoming NFL draft. A quick look at the 2011 pre draft visit list combined with the draft history of the Steelers almost yearly drafting of wide receivers under Kevin Colbert and it does not take a rocket scientist to add two and two together to get to this conclusion, although it took me a little while to accept it. Since Colbert took over as the Director of Football Operations in 2000, the Steelers have drafted 13 receivers and have drafted at least one in all but two drafts dating back to 2000. Just last

I wanted to take a long hard look at the Steelers redzone woes in 2010, so I used a crude successful play formula to get a better look at both the passing game and running game for the Steelers on plays inside the opponents redzone. Now defining a successful play is very tricky, but I will I tell you the criteria I used in the stats and tables below. Generally, a play is deemed as a success when the following occurs: 40% of yards‐to‐go are gained on 1st down; 60% of yards‐to‐go on 2nd down; or 100% of yards‐to‐go on 3rd & 4th down. So in other words, a pass or run play on 1st and

Also on display were tackle Anquez Jackson, defensive tackle Korey Morrison, running back Ulysses Banks, inside linebacker Afu Okosun and wide receiver Rashad Johnson. Gorscak commented on only Kearse and Jackson in the article.
The NFL writers from ESPN.com are ranking the top at each position over the next few weeks and first up on Tuesday were the wide receivers. Mike Wallace came in 12th and one spot ahead of former Steelers receiver Santonio Holmes.
