Pittsburgh Steelers president and co-owner Art Rooney II talked to the Pittsburgh media today and beat writers Ed Bouchette, Scott Brown and Mike Bires are all relaying the conversation via Twitter for us and I will recap those Tweets below. Scott Brown reported this morning that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will take quarterback coach Randy Fichtner with him to Hawaii for the 2012 Pro Bowl as a guest. This news means that Roethlisberger likely has every intention of playing in the game right now and it will be interesting to see if he is still forced to wear the special shoe as support for his injured left ankle that hobbled him the final quarter of the season. Scott Brown reports this afternoon that Pittsburgh Steelers nose tackle Casey Hampton is not scheduled to undergo surgery in the near future to repair the ACL he injured Sunday against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Wild Card game. Scott Brown reports on Twitter this morning that Pittsburgh Steelers veteran defensive end Aaron Smith told reporters this morning that he is completely healthy following the spinal-fusion surgery that he had back in November and that he could play tomorrow if he could. According to Brown he also said that he will decide after the season whether or not he will return in 2012 for his 14th season. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (ankle), running back Mewelde Moore (knee) and cornerback Curtis Brown (knee) all sat out out practice again today. Scott Brown is reporting this afternoon via Twitter that Pittsburgh Steelers second year wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders said that he doesn't know 100 percent if he is going to play Saturday against the St. Louis Rams because of his injured right foot. Sanders main goal right now is to be ready for the playoffs, according to Brown, and he said he doesn't want this injury to remain a lingering one. Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey will be back at practice Thursday for the Steelers on a limited basis according to Scott Brown. Pouncey sat out Wednesday as he continues to recover from a stomach virus that knocked him out of the Sunday night game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Brown reports that Pouncey has lost 12 pounds since getting the bug and will need to try to put some of it back on over the course of the next few days. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and left outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley were both limited today in practice as the team returned to the practice field following their week off for the bye. Roethlisberger, who fractured his thumb on his throwing hand against the Bengals last Sunday, was able to work in individual drills on Monday while wearing a splint and a glove on his injured hand. Below is the defensive participation chart for the Steelers week 10 game versus the Cincinnati Bengals this past Sunday afternoon. The most noticeable thing this week was that rookie defensive end Cameron Heyward did not see the field on defense for the first time this season as both Brett Keisel and Ziggy Hood played every snap of the game.
