Audio is below: [audio:http://www.steelersdepot.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/mike-tomlin-panthers-pre-game-press-conference.mp3] Tomlin opened by saying this is the last opportunity for a few players to make their case to make the 53 man roster. Ike Taylor, Chris Carter and Jerricho Cotchery will not play Thursday night and several players like James Farrior, Troy Polamalu, Casey Hampton, Bryant McFadden, Maurkice Pouncey Read more [...]
John Clayton speculated Wednesday on five teams that may take a chance on former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor, who decided earlier this week to enter the supplemental draft. Clayton list the Raiders, Dolphins, Ravens, Steelers and Redskins as the five teams that could possibly take a chance on him. Many are taking this speculation as fact that the Steelers have interest in Pryor and like I posted a short time ago, I still do not see it happening. To recap my reasoning, the Steelers already have four quarterbacks scheduled to show up at Latrobe whenever training camp opens. Those four Read more [...]

Steelers Beat Raiders 35-3 – Game Recap & Notes

Imagine if the Steelers ever decided to start fast. Took a couple turns of the key to get the motor to turn over. Left tackle Jonathan Scott got off to another rough start. Also these injuries to the offensive line are tough to overcome, especially during the game. Tomlin might need to think about dressing 8 instead of 7. If you do that though, who do you sit down? Very tough call to make for sure. Hard to judge the offensive line play until I go through it again, but it was better than last week. On the surface it looked like Ramon Foster had a pretty good game at right guard. I was scared Read more [...]

Left tackle Max Starks hinted that with the return of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, the Steelers just want to play consistently, control the line of scrimmage and control the time of possession. He warns against fans expecting them to light it up. Steelers defensive coordinator and former Lions cornerback Dick LeBeau was inducted as the 13th member of the Pride of the Lions in a halftime ceremony Sunday of the Lions game against the Rams. Speaking of the Lions, former Steelers kick returner Stefan Logan returned one 105 yards yesterday with his ailing father Michael in the stands to see Read more [...]
PPG beat writer Ed Bouchette takes a shot at the terms of the Ben Roethlisberger suspension, calling it counter productive because he is being forced to stay away from the team. We agree, he needs his teammates now. The Steelers announced the 8 man practice squad this morning and there were no new surprises really. It is good to see that Steve McLendon is back healthy. Three of the players the Steelers cut on Saturday were claimed by other teams off of waivers Sunday as the Buffalo Bills signed guard Kraig Urbik off of waivers, the Detroit Lions claimed returner Stefan Logan and the Tennessee Read more [...]

2010 Steelers Final 53 Man Roster Prediction

Oh how things can change so quickly. One play of the preseason even. As it stands right now, it looks like Byron Leftwich has some MCL damage. Early reports say it is torn, but that is not confirmed. This 53 man roster prediction of mine assumes he will be placed on IR. If not, I get one mulligan before the cuts are made Saturday. Here is the 53 man prediction from last week and I will note the changes and why I made them. First I added Kraig Urbik back because I feel he has improved greatly over the last 2 weeks. This takes me from 9 to 10 lineman. The next change is the releasing of Joe Burnett Read more [...]
Thursday night the Steelers play the Carolina Panthers in the fourth and final preseason game of the 2010 season. Per my normal routine, I have listed below 10 things to look for Thursday heading into the game. Manny Time On Returns? - According to head coach Mike Tomlin, rookie wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders will get his turn to show what he can do in the return game. Manny better be perfect, because any bobble might allow Tomlin to give Antonio Brown or Stefan Logan the remaining reps. Also just because Tomlin said that was the plan, means absolutely nothing. The Amazing Crezdon - 2 years Read more [...]
The Steelers trimmed down to 75 players on Tuesday morning and now will need to cut 21 more by September 4th. Why 21 and not 22 you ask? This is because quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be moved to the reserve/suspended list, so technically that will not be a cut. I have listed 10 players that will likely be seeing the Turk soon and 16 players who could be considered on the bubble right now in my opinion. None of these are locked in stone mind you and this list is for entertainment purposes only, so no one get your feelings hurt until the cuts are made as ANYTHING can happen in these final days Read more [...]

Broncos Beat Steelers 34-17 – Game Notes

The Steelers lost to the Denver Broncos 34-17 in the 3rd preseason game of the 2010 season. Below are my notes and nuggets I kept on the game along with my observations. I have much more coming on this game and am working through the night. These are initial reactions of mine as I am about to watch the game a second time and begin working up tape selections. Below are the notes I compiled throughout the game. remember these are initial reactions one time through the game. Ben Roethlisberger looked more ready to start a season than any other season I have ever seen. Too bad we have to wait at Read more [...]
Steelers right guard Trai Essex insists Flozell Adams will be starting the season at right tackle and noted that he has not lined up at right tackle one time in camp. Ed Bouchette notes in the article that the Steelers thus far in two preseason games, have run 76 times in 120 plays or 63.3 percent of the time. Speaking of the offensive line, former Steelers lineman and current sidelines reporter Craig Wolfley joined 105.9 THE X to discuss the offensive line and the win over the Giants this past Saturday. Scott Brown checks in on wide receiver Tyler Grisham who is facing the numbers game at Read more [...]
Ok, we are now half way through preseason games and training camp has officially broken. We have had quite a bit of game footage and information to digest and I am ready to revamp my 53 man roster prediction as the Steelers head into week 3 of the preseason against the Denver Broncos. Below are the changes and the reasoning for the add and drops. There is no need to keep Justin Hartwig now. I wrote about this way back on July 1st that he was not a lock and it looks like it is coming to fruition. Maurkice Pouncey is ready and Doug Legursky can back him up. Sure, Hartwig played guard before, but Read more [...]

Steelers Beat Giants 24-17 – Game Notes

The Steelers beat the New York Giants 24-17 in the 2nd preseason game of the 2010 season. Below are my notes and nuggets I kept on the game along with my observations. I have much more coming on this game and am working through the night. These are initial reactions of mine as I am about to watch the game a second time and begin working up tape selections. Below are the notes I compiled throughout the game. The team overall looked a little sluggish getting started. Camp finally breaking and traveling did not help. Let us hope Ike Taylor got that out of his system. Any how I gave Taylor the Read more [...]
