Hines Ward Hall Of Fame Bound Update

With the recent announcement by Steelers receiver Hines Ward that he would like to play a couple of more seasons, it is time to once again look at his credentials and chances of one day being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Here is my post last offseason on Ward for a reference point when I last posted about his run to Canton. First and foremost, Ward is the leading receiver in Steelers history in receptions (954), receiving yardage (11,702) and touchdown catches (84). He has more receptions than Steelers Hall of Fame receivers John Stallworth and Lynn Swann combined. He also leads Read more [...]
Now that the 2011 NFL Draft is complete, the NFL Network has begun their Top 100 Players of 2011 series. The top list is being billed as the first-ever countdown of the 100 Best NFL players of today, as voted on by fellow NFL players. If you were hoping for several Steelers players to make the top 100 list, you will be surely disappointed. Last night it was revealed by Lindsay Soto, Brian Baldinger and Charles Davis that only four Steelers players made the top 100 list. In the episode last night that featured players ranked 81st to 90th, it was announced that Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley Read more [...]
Dale Lolley blogged his early thoughts on the Steelers upcoming NFL draft needs and pretty much thinks the Steelers top targets will be cornerbacks Jimmy Smith or Aaron Williams. Bob Labriola goes over the Steelers plans for the upcoming NFL Combine that starts this week. On Sunday, Mike Bires gave his thoughts on the Steelers placing the franchise tag on outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley. Nobody is commenting on anything, but new NFL labor deal negotiations lasted about eight hours Sunday, the third consecutive day the NFL and the NFLPA met to try to find common ground before the current Read more [...]

Quick Thoughts On The Steelers Bengals Game

By David Todd Overview: After a slow start on both sides of the ball the Steelers put together a workman-like 23-7 win. The defense dominated after the first quarter, scoring both Steelers touchdowns, actually outscoring the Bengals 12-7. The offense did a good job of possessing the ball and moving the chains but continued to have trouble finishing drives. Nonetheless it was a good division win coming off an emotional national television win against Baltimore the previous week. Injuries: There were no significant new injuries reported after the game for the first time in weeks. Both Ben Read more [...]
Both sides of the ball were very sluggish to start with and it was not the first time we have seen this. The defense seemed confused to start with how the Bengals were lining up the fullback, tight end and extra tackles. Once they got that sorted out after the first drive they calmed down. LaMarr Woodley got of to a rough start starting with the first 3rd down, but he more than made up for it. I do not harp on non-calls that much in these recaps, but the missed holding calls on Woodley and James Harrison were VERY noticeable. I might try to clip gifs of all of these as the week goes. They Read more [...]
There is no room for a let down against the Bengals after the hard fought victory last week against the Ravens in Baltimore. A loss this week, could cost them a shot at the AFC North title as well as a good shot at the home field advantage. Playoffs? Why am I talking about playoffs? The Steelers should not be worried about anything but treating this as a must win divisional game and everything else will take care of itself. They have to remember that the Bengals swept them in 2009. This game has to be personal for them and they must play as such. Below are what we deem to be 7 keys to the game Read more [...]
The Steelers wrapped the practice week on Friday for their week 14 game Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. TE Heath Miller (concussion) and DT Steve McLendon (stinger) have both been ruled out for Sunday after both sat out on Friday. Miller missed the entire week as he recovers from a concussion suffered in the second half of the game last week against the Ravens. T Flozell Adams (ankle), S Troy Polamalu (ankle) and RB Isaac Redman (ankle) all practiced fully on Friday and all three are listed as probable on the Friday injury report. DE Aaron Smith (triceps) is of course ruled out again this Read more [...]
The Steelers continued practice preparations on Thursday for their week 14 home game against the Cincinnati Bengals. WR Hines Ward (not injury related) worked fully and was removed from the injury report after having Wednesday off. DT Steve McLendon (stinger) was added on Thursday as limited with a stinger injury. T Flozell Adams (ankle) practiced fully after sitting out on Wednesday and is vowing to be ready Sunday. TE Heath Miller (concussion) sat for a second straight day as expected. S Troy Polamalu (ankle) also sat out a second straight day, but should be good to go on Sunday. RB Isaac Redman Read more [...]
The Steelers began week 14 practice preparations on Wednesday for the Sunday home game against the Cincinnati Bengals. WR Hines Ward (not injury related), S Troy Polamalu (ankle), T Flozell Adams (ankle), TE Heath Miller (concussion) and DE Aaron Smith (triceps) all sat out on Wednesday. Smith of course will be out again this Sunday, while Miller and Adams are likely doubtful to play as well. Ward and Polamalu will be good to go on Sunday. RB Isaac Redman (ankle) was limited on Wednesday. QB Ben Roethlisberger was not listed at all on the Wednesday report. He is recovering from nose surgery earlier Read more [...]
Batman and Robin, or as I like to call them, Ace and Gary, are at it again as the called Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger "soft" after getting hit in the face last Sunday by the Raiders Richard Seymour. I am trying to remember how many winning Super Bowl rings these two jackasses have. Oh, that's right, NONE! Big Ben of course has two. Looks like scoreboard goes to Ben. Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco have plenty of time to plan their next bad reality shows as the Bengals are once again done already at the 11 week mark. Below is the clip from the Ace & Gary T.Ocho Show: Read more [...]
The Steelers finally come back home after a 3 game road trip that saw them go 2-1. The New England Patriots are finding ways to win and have matched the 6-2 start of the Steelers. With the Ravens Thursday night loss to the Falcons, the Steelers can take a one game lead in the division with a win. Below are what we deem to be 7 keys to the game for the Steelers to beat the Patriots in week 10 on Sunday Night Football. Great Scott? - Jonathan Scott will start at left tackle with Max Starks now out for the season with a neck injury. Scott will likely see a ton of outside linebacker Rob Ninkovich Read more [...]
That left side of the line was very scary mixed in with Maurkice Pouncey missing time. Mike Tomlin was getting tight end Matt Spaeth ready to play tackle. Sounds like Chris Kemoeatu might be sidelined next week. Too early to tell. I can tell you that Jonathan Scott does not get many snaps at left guard. He is not a great left side option at tackle or guard. Better on the right side. If the injuries keep up, they will likely need the Aaron Smith roster spot pretty soon. It is fine to wait for him if you have the space. Need to stay healthy. I bet Ben Roethlisberger wishes he had that one pass Read more [...]
The Bengals really need this game to turn around their season as falling to 2-6 might be the death blow on their chances this year. The Steelers come to Cincinnati after a stinging loss last Sunday night against the Saints. The Steelers are also stinging from being swept last year by the Bengals in two games they clearly had a great shot at winning. This is the 3rd Steelers road game in a row and a division win would be a great way to end it. Below are what we deem to be 7 keys to the game for the Steelers to beat the Bengals in week 9 on Monday Night Football. Laying Wood On Smith - The Bengals Read more [...]
Dale Lolley writes that the Steelers miss Santonio Holmes the most as a hot receiver as was evident Sunday night in New Orleans. Ed Bouchette writes about the slightly improved Steelers running game over what happened on the ground in 2009. Bengals.com has the Wednesday conference call transcripts of both the Steelers and the Bengals. Mike Tomlin and Ben Roethlisberger fielded Cincinatti media questions, while Marvin Lewis, Carson Palmer and Terrell Owens talked to the Pittsburgh media. Teresa Varley of Steelers.com sat down with rookie wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders in the latest edition Read more [...]

Steelers Offense The Best In The Division

By Chris Gates Oddly enough, it’s fair to say the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense is the best in the AFC North after one week. Let that sink in for a second. OK, now that you’ve taken the short amount of time to deduce I’m a dummy and know nothing about football, let’s look at the facts from week one. The Steelers’ 15 points in a 15-9 win over Atlanta Sunday proved to be the most points scored by an AFC North team in a victory. Baltimore was the only other AFC North team to win, with a 10-9 decision Monday night against the New York Jets. The Ravens’ offense continually Read more [...]
