Day 9 of Steelers training camp got off to a great start when it was announced that LaMarr Woodely had signed a 6-year, $61 million dollar extension. Woodley was currently carrying the franchise tag that was set to pay him $10 million plus in 2011. The extension now means he is under contract through the 2016 season and he know will count around $6.35 million against the Steelers 2011 salary cap. Woodley talked about his new contract this morning and you can read about it on Steelers.com. Now that Woodley is locked up, I posted my thoughts on who the Steelers may turn their attention to. James Harrison Leaves Practice Wednesday With His Back Surgeon

Ed Bouchette and Scott Brown are both reporting via Twitter that Steelers linebacker James Harrison left the practice field today early and was seen walking off with his back surgeon, Joe Maroon. Harrison was seen laughing as he walked off with Maroon and speculation is that there is no problem. Brown thinks that perhaps it was a planned check up today on the surgically repaired back of Harrison. Harrison was not practicing today. Harrison underwent two back procedures this offseason with the first coming on Feb. 21 to remove part of a herniated disk in his lower back that was causing him problems. Read more [...]

The Steelers only had one long snapper in camp in the form of Derek Chard and Warren now appears to be the odds on favorite to continue his role as the long snapper. Steelers TE Heath Miller Agrees To Restructure Contract

Another Steelers player has put his hand into the restructured contract pile as Scott Brown reports via Twitter that tight end Heath Miller is restructering his contract to help free up salary cap room for this year. The Steelers rewarded Miller with a six-year, $35.3 million contract extension back in July of 2009 that included a $12.5 million signing bonus. Miller was set to count around $5.6 million against the cap this year with a base of around $3.4 million. The Steelers will likely turn half of that base salary or more into signing bonus money and stretch that amount out over this year Read more [...]

Emmanuel Sanders To Miss Next 3 Weeks Because Of Foot Problem

Various Steelers beat writers are reporting this morning that second year wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders has informed the media that he will remain sidelined for the next 3 weeks with a foot injury. Sanders had both feet operated during the offseason after suffering a broken bone in one of his feet during the Steelers loss to the Packers in the Super Bowl. Sanders tried to practice during the first on field practice this past weekend, but reported foot discomfort afterwards and has been sidelined since. This might explain the Steelers recent interest in Plaxico Burress this past weekend as there Read more [...]

Steelers 2011 Training Camp – Day Four Recap

Sunday was day 4 of Steelers training camp and once again the news got off to an early start as the Plaxico Burress watch is now over after he agreed to terms on a one year deal with the Jets for a little over $3 million. Perhaps the trip to Pittsburgh was just a ploy to drive his price tag up, but I am willing to bet the Steelers were not in the ballpark money wise. Whatever the reason was, it doesn’t matter at this point. The next bit of news we got right before practice started is that the Steelers had agreed to terms with cornerback William Gay on a one-year deal. No terms were announce, but Read more [...]

Steelers Agree To Terms With RB Mewelde Moore

Mark Kaboly reports via Twitter that unrestricted free agent running back Mewelde Moore has agreed to terms on a contract to return to Pittsburgh. The Steelers are dead set at re-signing their own free agents this year to help lessen the stress of relying on inexperienced rookies on the roster. No terms have been announced yet, but it would figure to be a one or two year deal. Moore will likely resume his role as a the third down and change of pace back initially, but stands to have competition from 7th round draft pick Baron Batch, who is already turning heads in training camp. Last season Read more [...]
