Broncos Sign WR Tyler Grisham To Future Contract

The Tyler Grisham days with the Pittsburgh Steelers are now over as the Denver Broncos announced today that they signed the former Clemson wide receiver to a future contract. Grisham was originally signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent following the 2009 draft and made the practice squad out of training camp. Grisham was promoted to the Steelers 53 man roster for the final 4 games of the 2009 season and recorded just 1 catch for 14 yards during that span against the Baltimore Ravens. He has been a main stay on the Steelers practice squad for the last 2 seasons, but was never promoted Read more [...]
The Steelers go on the road to play the AFC North leading Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday and they will do so with just 4 healthy wide receivers as Emmanuel Sanders and Arnaz Battle were both ruled out as expected on the Friday injury report. Also ruled out as expected was outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley. Let's have a look at the injured players and predict the other remaining inactives this week as the Steelers look to bounce back from their loss last week against the Ravens. The official inactive list are released 90 minutes before kick-off and I will have them up on the site as soon as they are Read more [...]

Steelers Choose Not To Promote WR Tyler Grisham

There was some thought that the Steelers might promote wide receiver Tyler Grisham today from the practice squad for the game Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals with wide receivers Emmanuel Sanders and Arnaz Battle out this week, but that was not the case as Grisham did not make the trip to Cincinnati today. This means that the Steelers will only dress 4 wide receivers for the game tomorrow. Veteran wide receiver Hines Ward practiced fully all week after suffering a concussion last week early in the game against the Ravens and Jerricho Cotchery practiced fully on Thursday and Friday after suffering Read more [...]
Season 2, Episode 41 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I open with a look at the Steelers Friday injury report and who is in and who is out this week. With Emmanuel Sanders and Arnaz Battle out, will the Steelers have Tyler Grisham on the plane Saturday? We discuss that along with Bengals injuries as well. Tight end Jermaine Gresham is questionable for the Bengals and although they have survived without him in the last few games, both David and I see him as a big need for Cincinnati this week. We also touch on the Steelers claiming Al Woods off the waiver wire this week and I tell Read more [...]

The final preseason game is now complete and now it is time to trim the roster down to 53 players for the final time this offseason. I have been all over the map in the previous versions of my final roster prediction and it is easy to understand why when you watch each preseason game 10 times each as you see new things every time through. It is easy to fall in love with certain players from game to game and it will cloud your judgment along the way. Enough with the setup, here is my final Steelers 2011 53 man roster prediction and the reasoning behind it. Heading into tonight several had Read more [...]

2011 Steelers Practice Squad Eligible Players

Every year heading into the final cut-down week fans are curious as to what players are eligible to be placed on the Steelers practice squad. In the new CBA the rule has not changed as far as the player eligibility goes. As always, every draft pick and undrafted free agent are eligible as these players are rookies. The biggest question always revolves around players that are not rookies that may have served time on a practice squad or have even made a 53 man roster for a short period of time. Below is the rule on practice squad eligibility and a list of the players that are currently on the bottom Read more [...]
With the third preseason game in the books it is now time to break down the performance of the offensive line and blocking by the offense as I do every week. As a whole the offensive line looked good and here is a breakdown by player. Marcus Gilbert - Gilbert made is first start of the preseason with Jonathan Scott out with a knee injury and he did not disappoint as he scored well against the likes of John Abraham, Jonathan Babineaux and Ray Edwards. Gilbert was not flawless though as he did allow an early pressure that lead to a sack of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Gilbert was worried about Read more [...]

There will be 2 more of these as we slowly work our way down to the final 53 man prediction following the last preseason game against the Panthers. Tuesday marked the final practice at Latrobe as the Steelers will break camp on Wednesday in preparation for their second preseason game against the Eagles on Thursday. Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor underwent successful surgery today to repair his broken left thumb suffered last Friday against the Redskins and he anticipates returning before the Steelers play the Ravens in week 1. Mike Tomlin held his weekly news conference today and ruled out Taylor, Emmanuel Sanders, Chris Kemoeatu, Bryant McFadden, Cortez Allen, Mario Harvey and Crezdon Butler for the Thursday game. Eugene Bright remains Read more [...]
Offensive lineman Tony Hills has thrown a wrench into where I am at with my 53 man roster projection. I released version 2.0 on Sunday and feel I am pretty close as far as nailing it down once again. It is not uncommon to be a few players off after just one preseason game and I feel that is exactly where I am at right now. The 50th, 51st, 52nd and 53rd players are the toughest ones to figure out right now and baring another signing or unexpected injury, I feel 49 of the 53 roster spots are pretty much sewn up at this point. I firmly believe after the Monday & Tuesday practice this week that Read more [...]
Season 2, Episode 7 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I continue taking a hard look at how the Steelers roster is going to shake out and this time we finally have some game tape to analyze. In Part 1 we open by looking at the injury news and the signing Jericho Cothchery. As you might expect based on our recent discussions, we don't really agree on how necessary of a signing this was. You can let us know whose side you come down on. After discussing the injuries of Baron Batch, Ike Taylor and some of the young guys, we get into the good stuff. Roster battles. In today's episode Read more [...]
