Steelers Six From Around The Web – January 23rd – Jerome Bettis Calls Tails Again Edition

Former Steelers great Jerome Bettis showed up in the latest Papa John pizza commercial on Sunday that was a promo for the Super Bowl XLVI Coin Toss Experience. Peyton Manning also has a cameo as the referee that pokes fun of the Thanksgiving coin toss debacle against the Detroit Lions back on on November 26, 1998. The Benstonium crew already has a Ace Ventura spoof out of the missed kick by Billy Cundiff in the AFC Championship game. This time it is “Laces out, Sam”, instead of “Laces out, Dan.” This of course would make Cundiff, Ray Finkle and Sam Koch, Dan Marino. Too funny. Speaking Read more [...]

The Baltimore Ravens lost to the New England Patriots 23-20 in the AFC Championship game as Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff shanked a 32-yard field-goal wide left with with just 15 seconds left in regulation that would have tied the game and likely sent in into overtime. One Ravens fan did not take the loss very well as you will see in the Youtube video below and went into full blown freak-out mode. He tells everyone to get out of his house and cusses Cundiff, offensive coordinator Cam Cameron and even quarterback Joe Flacco. The video is quite entertaining to us Steelers fans I must admit. It is December 23rd and that means that it is time once again to celebrate the anniversary of the Immaculate Reception. 39 years ago today the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Oakland Raiders 12-7 in the AFC divisional playoff game with one of the most famous plays in the history of the NFL at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. The date was December 23rd, 1972 and the 4th down play featured a pass intended for running back Frenchy Fuqua from quarterback Terry Bradshaw that was deflected backwards up into the air after Raiders safety Jack Tatum hit Fuqua just as the ball arrived. Drunk Browns Fan Now Sober After Being Body Slammed By James Harrison

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison has apparently helped changed the life of a Cleveland Browns fan. Yes, the man suspended on Tuesday for one game for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Browns quarterback Colt McCoy, might have helped a person by leveling him 6 years ago. Bill Lubinger, of The Cleveland Plain Dealer, wrote tonight that the man that Harrison body slammed during a 2005 Christmas Eve game against the Browns, is now sober and has turned his life around. The drunk Browns fan in question, Nathan Mallet, ran out on the field during the Steelers 41-0 blowout of the Browns in Read more [...]

Oh joy, the NFL has released a new video that shows new examples of legal and illegal hits on defenseless players. The seven-minute video, narrated by NFL Vice President of Officiating Carl Johnson, views more like something that the Iraqi Information Minister put out years ago. In the video, Johnson tries to show how players on defense are to lower their target when hitting a receiver. Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark is featured as a player delivering an illegal hit on Baltimore Ravens tight end Ed Dickson several few weeks ago. Steelers Six From Around The Web – December 10th – Harrison Hit Talk Edition

Jamie Dukes tries to somewhat defend the hit by linebacker James Harrison on Colt McCoy Thursday night, but does not do a very good job in my opinion. The league has explained to Mike Florio why the hit on McCoy by Harrison will likely earn him a pretty good fine and possibly even a suspension. Here is the sit down that Michael Irvin had with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger prior to the Thursday game to discuss his injuries through the years and how he wants to go down in franchise history. The video and animated gif below shows that Harrison hit McCoy right in the face mask after the ball left the hand of McCoy and after he completed his throwing motion.
