Mike Tomlin Wednesday Press Conference Talking Points Preseason Week 1

Mike Tomlin held his first official press conference of the preseason today and here are the highlights and talking points from today as the Steelers get ready to face the Redskins on Friday.

Tomlin opened by saying that they are really going to take a simple approach to this game as far as the evaluation of the players. He said they will see who can block under those conditions, tackle, run, pass and kick. There are no hard core plans as far as things they want to specifically see from people.

Tomlin expects starters to play around 10 snaps or less.

7 players have already been ruled out in Emmanuel Sanders, Adam Mims, Eugene Bright, Chris Kemoeatu, Bryant McFadden, Mario Harvey and Cortez Allen. The determination on players like Hines Ward has not been determined yet along with several other veteran players.

Tomlin said Curtis Brown is still going through the learning process and dealing with his early injuries is part of that process.

Tomlin says they still have two full padded practices to go through before the game.

As far as the undrafted players go, Tomlin says he is pleased with their willingness to compete thus far, but Friday will be telling for them.

As far as the free agents that have been brought in for visits so far, Tomlin said they are always looking to strengthen the roster and the visits get so much attention because they are taking place during training camp and not at their normal time during free agency.

No hard and fast decision has been made on the role Tyler Grisham will play Friday.

Tomlin says Chris Scott is a good shot to be challenger to Ramon Foster for the starting right guard spot.
