Report: Dennis Dixon Will Sign One Year Tender

ESPN AFC North blogger James Walker is reporting that Steelers restricted free agent quarterback Dennis Dixon will sign his one-year restricted free-agent tender. The move is expected as early as today according to the report, which will allow Dixon to practice later this week.

Dixon\’s agent Jeff Sperbeck said that the desire for a trade and an opportunity to compete for a starting job elsewhere remains the same, but added it was in the best interest for Dixon to get into training camp before he missed even more time.

The Steelers tendered Dixon at a fifth-round level before the lockout started and Dixon was still allowed to entertain other free agent offers because of his restricted status. Thus far there seems to have been no interest in Dixon on the free agent market and he is only doing himself damage by holding out for a trade.

The Steelers might decide to showcase Dixon early on in the preseason in hopes they get a trade offer for him. Teams certainly will want to see that he is recovered from his knee injury last year that forced the Steelers to place him on injured reserve.
