Roethlisberger Says Everyone Wanted To Jump On Hater Bandwagon After Week 1

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was interviewed by Lindsay Soto tonight on NFL Total Access and here are a few excerpts from that interview. You can see the complete interview here on nfl.com.

Soto: How do you maximize the time off this week?

Roethlisberger: Well, really it\’s about relaxing and not doing anything and just letting your body heal. This is probably one of the latest by weeks that I can ever remember, but I guess we would rather have it now than like week 3 or 4, so it comes at a good time for us because we some nicks here and there and some guys that are banged up so hopefully it will be a good time so everyone can get heeled up.

Soto: Tell me about some of your new targets?

Roethlisberger: My toys? They\’re a good group of guys. It\’s fun, because it\’s from top to bottom. It\’s from the running back position, the tight end, the wide receiver. I think everyone wants to make a big deal about Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown, but really you have to look at guys that are still doing it like Hines Ward, Jerricho Cotchery, Emmanuel Sanders, Heath Miller. You know, there are so many guys that are fun to throw to and we have a lot of fun and I think the sky is the limit and we got to just keep improving.

Soto: You were extremely jubilant after Cotchery got into the endzone?

Roethlisberger: (Laughs) Yes, everyone keeps talking about that. I don\’t know what came over me. I guess I was just excited. I don\’t know, I just started running around like a little kid I guess. Having fun.

Soto: What is your teams full potential?

Roethlisberger: I don\’t know. I said during training camp that I felt like our potential was the sky is the limit when it came to our potential you know for some of these young guys and myself and just how good we could be as an offense. So I honestly feel we that if we keep improving every week, we keep getting a little better and who knows. As long as we keep improving and not deteriorating, I think we will kind of see where we can go.

Soto: Did you have a sense you needed to get younger this year?

Roethlisberger: Not at all. You know people make a big deal after week 1. You lose a game and everyone wants to kind of jump on the hater bandwagon of the Steelers even more than they already are. So we just kind of laughed it off and said we\’ll just do what we do and I think we\’ve done that.

Soto: Would you like to get the Ravens again in the playoffs after losing twice to them this season?

Roethlisberger: Well, you just want to make the playoffs, but we can\’t do that without playing this week or next week against Kansas City, so I am not looking too far into the future, because you can only focus on one thing and that\’s Kansas City.
