Burress Calls Roethlisberger His Favorite Quarterback & Is Open To Returning To Steelers

Soon to be unrestricted free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress joined Adam Schein and Rich Gannon on SiriusXM NFL Radio Tuesday morning to talk about his upcoming free agency situation and talk about a few teams that he would be interested in playing for.

After Burress was asked about the possibility of playing for the New York Jets, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers in 2012, he was asked if he would be open to returning to the Pittsburgh Steelers as well. Burress replied, “Definitely. I talk to Ben every now and again. Maybe once a month or whatever that may be. Ben Roethlisberger has always been my favorite quarterback. People can say what they want about him, but the guy just goes out and wins and he\’s been that way since he came to Pittsburgh in 2004, we went 15-1. It may not be pretty at all times, but the guy wins. I say that he is going to be as close to John Elway as anybody is going to get. He\’s a competitive player and I love the edge he plays with. He\’s as tough as they come and he\’s always been my favorite quarterback. So with that being said, of course I would be open to going back to Pittsburgh.”

Schein then asked Burress why Ben Roethlisberger was his favorite quarterback as opposed to Giants quarterback Eli Manning and Burress said, “You know I would say that just knowing Ben. I\’ve been in contact with Ben ever since I met him. We would have Thanksgivings together when I was over there for the year that I was there. We always remained in communication through everything that we\’ve been through. When I went through what I was going through he was supportive of me and I would reach out to him through some of the things that he went through. You know its just not as far as football, I know the person. I know the kind of heart he has and the way that he wins football games in the fourth quarter, the way he comes backs and wins. I think it just says a lot about the character of the person, because you have to have a certain character about yourself to go out and do those things when it\’s time to go out and make a play. And he\’s always been that way since day one. Since he walked in the locker room when I was over there and I just love the way he goes about things and I believe he doesn\’t get enough credit for the things that he does over there. Like I said, he\’s my favorite quarterback and like I said, he\’s John Elway to me and he just doesn\’t get any better than that.”

Now of course this is not the first time that Burress, who was originally drafted by the Steelers, has been linked as a possibility to return to the team that he started his NFL career with as he made a free agent visit just last year before ultimately signing with the Jets. His name also popped up again as a candidate to return to Pittsburgh in 2012 last week, but several things would have to happen for that to take place and one of those things would be the loss of restricted free agent Mike Wallace during free agency. If that indeed were to happen, Pittsburgh could indeed be a possible landing spot for Burress in 2012.
