Saints Sign Former Steelers G Ryan Lee To Their Practice Squad On Tuesday

The Pittsburgh Steelers released undrafted free agent guard Ryan Lee from their practice squad last week and on Tuesday the New Orleans Saints officially signed the Furman product to their practice squad.

Lee had been on the Steelers practice squad all season after a strong preseason showing at left guard, albeit on the third team.

Normally, losing young players off of the practice squad are things that do not bother me that much, but if you read this site through the preseason you know that I thought Lee possibly had some long-term potential. Perhaps even as early as 2013.

It would have been nice to see Lee get some work with the second team during the preseason to see if he could have handled the competition, but obviously the coaching staff thought different.

In somewhat related news, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers released guard/tackle Chris Scott from their practice squad on Tuesday. Scott, the Steelers 5th round draft pick in 2010, was with the Steelers through the preseason. The Steelers currently have two spots open on their own practice squad and it will be interesting to see if they give Scott a call to fill one of those spots, or if they have washed their hands of him completely. Scott did not have a good showing during the preseason.
