AFC North Week 3 Recap: Lone Win By Ravens Has Them Alone At The Top

AFC NORTH TEAMS

The Baltimore Ravens were the only AFC North team to win on Sunday and as a result they will now enter Week 4 all alone at the top of the division with a perfect 3-0 record.

Ravens kicker Justin Tucker kicked four field goals in Sunday’s 19-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars with his final one coming with 1:02 left in the fourth quarter that was ultimately the game-winner.

In the win, Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco completed 29 of his 40 pass attempts for 214 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. Veteran wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. led all pass catchers in the game with 8 receptions for 87 yards.

The Ravens defense also contributed quite a bit to Sunday’s win as they not only intercepted Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles three times during the game, they also sacked him four times in total and held Jacksonville to just 48 yards rushing.

The Cincinnati Bengals dropped to 1-2 on the season Sunday thanks to their 29-17 home loss to the Denver Broncos.

In the loss, Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton threw for just 206 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. The Bengals also lost despite out-rushing the Broncos in yards 143 to 52.

Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders had quite a game against the Bengals as the former Pittsburgh Steelers draft pick caught 9 passes on Sunday for 117 yards and two touchdowns. After a slow start to the game, Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian completed 23 of his 35 total pass attempts on his way to throwing for 312 yards and four touchdowns.

The Broncos defense sacked Dalton four times on Sunday with linebacker Shane Ray registering three of those quarterback take-downs. The Bengals also committed nine penalties in Sundays loss.

The Cleveland Browns remained winless on Sunday thanks to their 30-24 overtime road loss to the Miami Dolphins.

The Browns blew an opportune to record their first win of the 2016 regular season as new kicker Cody Parkey missed a 46-yard field goal attempt with time running out in regulation. In overtime, after trading offensive possessions, Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi scored from 11 yards out with 8:43 left to give Miami the win.

In the loss, Browns wide receiver Terrelle Pryor caught 8 passes for 144 yards. He also rushed for another 21 yards and completed 3 of his 5 pass attempts in the game for another 35 yards.

Browns quarterback Cody Kessler completed 21 of his 33 total pass attempts in his first career NFL start for 244 yards.

In Week 4 AFC North action, the Steelers will host the Kansas City Chiefs at Heinz Field on Sunday night. The Bengals will get Week 4 rolling on Thursday night by hosting the Dolphins and the division-leading Ravens will host the 2-1 Oakland Raiders on Sunday afternoon. The winless Browns will play the 1-2 Washington Redskins on the road next Sunday.

While it’s not much of a consolation, at least the Steelers Sunday loss to the Philadelphia Eagles was an out of conference game.
