Jersey Numbers For Steelers’ Free Agents, Maxey Makes Switch

Cleaning out the notebook for this Wednesday while most of you, I imagine, are glued to the Pens’ game. Yesterday, we wrote about the jersey numbers for this year’s drafted rookie class. It’s a group highlighted by T.J. Watt’s #90 and James Conner’s #30, the two numbers that are not subject to change.

The team website updated the roster with every player on the 90 man roster having an assigned number. Of course, that includes the free agents.

Here are the numbers for some of the key free agents.

Justin Hunter – #11
Coty Sensabaugh – #24
Knile Davis – #34
Tyson Alualu – #94

Sensabaugh and Davis wore those numbers already in their career while Hunter is starting with a clean slate. That’s probably for the best. It’s also another reason why Conner is going to his high school number of 30 instead of 24, what he wore at Pitt. Alualu wore 93 for his entire Jacksonville Jaguars’ career but will now take over Lawrence Timmons’ jersey.

As far as the roster shows, one player has changed his 2016 number. Defensive end Johnny Maxey is switching from 62 to 95, now vacated by Jarvis Jones.

Some of the notable UDFAs and future contracts:

Rushel Shell – #38
Akil Blount – #49
Francis Kallon – #62
Mike Matthews – #62
Scott Orndoff – #80
