    Couple thoughts –

    – Last year AQ Shipley, Joe Burnett, Frank Summers, Ra’Shon Harris, and Jason Chery visited, so it does give you an idea of who the Steelers like. At least a few of these guys will likey be Steelers by May.

    – I think Sean Lee will count as a local visit since he is from Upper St. Clair (Pittsburgh suburb). The way I understand it, University of Pittsburgh plus kids who grew up in PGH count as a local visit.

    – Not sure if WVU counts as a local visit? I don’t think PSU does.

    – Sort of surprised about Mike Neal – he really seems like a 4-3 type DT to me….not a fit for the 3-4, but I guess John Mitchell disagrees.

    – Arrelious Benn sends a message to Santonio – although I still don’t see them taking a WR early – I don’t see them keeping 6 WRs – so who gets cut? Randle-El? Arnaz Battle? That’s signing bonus money down the drain if they cut Randle-El or Battle… Unless they swing a draft day trade of Santonio?……not really the Steelers style but who knows?

    – I wonder if they have any interest in Rolando McClain ?

    – From the list above, I like Iupati or Kyle Wilson at pick 18 depending on how the draft unfolds

    04/06/2010 Update –

    – I like Brayn Bulaga but I haven’t seen many, if any, mocks that have him on the board at pick 18. This seems sort of a wasted visit, unless all the mocks are wrong. I wonder if any other top rated OTs are coming in – Trent Williams, Bruce Campbell, Anthony Davis ?

    – I’m sort of surpised at the almost total lack of interest in D-linemen – Jared Odrick, LaMarr Houston, Terrence Cody, Alex Carrington, Corey Wooton, etc, etc…are not on the visit list. I know it’s sort of a ‘poker game’ and the Steelers don’t want to show all their cards, but still… I would have thought they’d have more interest in D-linemen than just Mike Neal.

-Looks like no interest at ILB early – no Rolando McClain, Sean Weatherspoon, Brandon Spikes, etc.. visits

Dez Bryant and Golden Tate visit on 4/7/2010. WOW!

This is either a total smokescreen, a waste of visits, or they are preparing to trade Santonio Holmes.

Anybody that was paying attention shouldn’t be too shocked by the Holmes trade…although I wish we got more than a 5th rounder in return.

Another comment on the visits –

Seems to me, they are maybe positioning themselves for a trade down in round 1 into the 25-32 range (or up into early round 2 like 33-40)? Just based on who they visited with.

They looked at quite a few guys that might be a “reach” at pick 18, yet will be taken way before pick 52 – Pouncey, Jerry Hughes, Golden Tate, Kareem Jackson, Rodger Saffold.
