Baylor NT Phil Taylor Visiting Steelers Today For Pre Draft Visit

Baylor nose tackle Phil Taylor is making his pre draft visit today to Pittsburgh to visit with the Steelers according to Steelers Digest. Taylor measured in at the NFL Combine at 6 foot 3 and 1/4 and weighed 334 pounds. He ran the 40 in the low 5.0 range and benched 225 pounds 31 times. He also recorded a vertical jump of 29 1/2 inches, a broad jump of 8 feet 4 inches and ran the 20 yard shuttle in 4.77 seconds. Taylor is an ideal 3-4 nose tackle and transferred to Baylor from Penn State in 2008 after he was suspended for an off the field campus fight. He is perhaps the top nose tackle prospect in this draft and moves well for a man his size. You can watch some of his video highlights below.

I want this as our first round pick. Then Brown or Dowling in 2nd round

As much as we need a corner I don’t see drafting one in the first round if the top three are off the board which seems vey likely. So if he is avaliable and the top three DB’s are off the board I too would like this pick. I think he would make a great replacement for C. Hampton. I agree with John, I would then do whatever to get Dowling or Brown in the 2nd. I personally like Dowling better.

I like Taylor a lot at pick 31. I’ve seen a lot of mocks that have him going to KC with pick 21.
He was dominant at the Senior Bowl practices and would be an ideal replacement for Hampton in a few years. He’s the only guy I’ve seen on the visit list that seems to be a solid value for pick 31.

I agree with the comments above, I think Brown or Dowling are a slight reach at 31 – but they wouldn’t still be on the board at 63. If we took Taylor at 31, we would have to trade up in round 2 to get Brown or Dowling. I also like the idea of trading down from 31 to stockpile future picks, then taking Brown or Dowling (or Aaron Williams or Brandon Harris) early in round 2.
