Steelers Podcast – The Terrible Podcast – #48 Interview With NFL Draft Scout Dave-Te\’ Thomas Episode

Steelers Terrible Podcast LogoEpisode #48 of The Terrible Podcast is up and in this special pre draft podcast episode I am joined by Dave-Te\’ Thomas, the Director of Operations for Scouting Services Inc to discuss the 2011 NFL draft as it relates to the Steelers. Dave is a long time NFL scout that got his break with the Raiders and Al Davis back in 1968 at the young age of 14. Dave starts off telling me a little about his background and he turned heads with the Raiders with his first 4000 page draft report. We then get into to talking about players the Steelers might have interest in drafting next week and Dave tells me why Baylor offensive lineman Danny Watkins would be his choice for the Steelers if he is still on the board when they pick in the first round. I get his opinion on several defensive linemen and cornerbacks that may or may not be drafted early by the Steelers and we also talk mid-round and late round prospects in addition. Dave is well established as an NFL scout and has written the bios for the NFL this year that are distributed to the media. He made for a great and entertaining interview and has promised to join us again after the draft to talk about the players that the Steelers draft next week.

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

Great interview Dave, but I will be really pissed if they draft Watkins and not a cornerback in the 1st round. We need secondary help.

  • Pat

I don’t get this guy. I read an article on pittsburghlive.com where he said that he doesn’t expect the steelers to resign Ike Taylor. But, he wouldn’t draft a cornerback in the 1st round. Good thing this guy doesn’t work for the steelers.

  • SteelHawk55

This guy obviously doesn’t watch or follow the Steelers closely. He said Roethlisberger is one of the most “immobile” QB’s in the league and also mentioned relieving Wallace of his kick return duties. Ben is one of the most mobile starting qb’s in the league and I don’t think Wallace returned a kick or punt all season. Not to mention the B.S. he was spewing about Brooks Reed being a better 5 technique than a cam Jordan or cam heyward. Reed will be either 4-3 right end or a 3-4 OLB. He doesn’t understand the 3-4 scheme and position responsibilities.

  • Dave Bryan

I would not say Ben is the most mobile QB, but more elusive in the pocket and very good at avoiding the rush. I think the Wallace comment was a case of thinking one player and saying anothers name. It happens to me as well and I am only 43. As far as Reed, I took his comments meaning they should look at Reed as perhaps an outside linebacker pass rusher type, not a defensive end. Thanks for listening.
