The Terrible Podcast – Hines Ward & Aaron Smith Special Episode

Steelers PodcastSeason 2, Episode 82 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I dedicate a special Thursday night edition of the podcast to Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward and defensive end Aaron Smith as we breakdown the recent news regarding their releases. We discuss what the salary cap is looking like after the recent moves and touch once again on the pending Mike Wallace situation as we get closer to deadline for the tenders and tags.

With the blood of Ward still floating in the water we get into a very spirited debate about whether or not Ward is Hall of Fame worthy. We both present our cases and invite listeners to email us with their opinions as well. Take your black and gold glasses off for a while and tell us which one of us is right and which one of us is wrong.

We move on to pay tribute to Smith, who certainly was one of the best 3-4 defensive ends in his prime. We talk about how it looks like he will bypass any retirement press conference and how he is a Hall of Fame human being in our eyes and the rest of the eyes of Steeler Nation. We acknowledge that it has been a sad couple of days for the fan base, but that it is part of the business and we have to move on from it. Their contributions will never be forgotten.

We move on talk about the release of Chris Kemoeatu and the possible forthcoming release of James Farrior. Will Jerricho Cotchery be back? It is looking good to us and we discuss when we think that may happen.

We touch on the draft needs briefly once again and set up our interview we have scheduled with Cecil Lammey on Friday as we will be talking all about the NFL combine and certain players the Steelers certainly have their eyes on right now as the countdown to draft day has now started. It should be a hard hitting show for sure.

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

I agree with Dave Bryan. Hines is better than Tim Brown and Chris Carter and the two super bowls put him over the top. Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt won’t get in.

Hines is my all time favorite player because he played the way it should be played, and I think he definitely deserves hall of fame, but I fear because he didn’t play the game in a sexy way he will be overlooked by the haters and people that only care about numbers. Hines was the an on a winning franchise for years and years. He was the best blocking receiver ever, and though Wayne and some others might end up with better numbers, they weren’t necessarily the career leaders and complete players (blocking) that Hines was.
