Steelers Bring In BYU DT Hebron Fangupo & Wayne State CB Jeremy Jones For Pre Draft Visits

The Steelers have BYU defensive tackle Hebron Fangupo and Wayne State safety Jeremy Jones in for pre draft visits on Friday to close out the week according to a tweet by Steelers Digest.

Fangupo measured in at the combine at 6011 and weighed 323 pounds. He ran the 40 in 5.18 seconds to go along with a 4.62 short shuttle time. He put up 36 reps on the bench and had a vertical jump of 31 1/2 inches to go along with a 08\’03” broad jump. He played defensive end in the 3-4 front at BYU and projects as a 2 gap nose tackle at the next level. He is a pure pocket pusher when he keeps his pad level low and is very raw when it comes to technique. Not the fastest off the ball, but he does anchor well in the limited tape I have watched on him.

Jones measured in at the combine at 5094 and weighed 194 lbs. He only ran the 40 yard dash and benched at the combine but his 40 time was 4.56 seconds. Jones finished his standout career at Wayne State with 17 interceptions as a cornerback, third most in school history, and three returns for touchdowns. He finished his career with 23 pas break ups and 24 thrown for loss tackles. He’s only a D2 guy, but that is certainly dominance. in 2011 Jones had 73 solo tackles and 6.5 sacks in addition. He was a dominate Division II player.

Both Fangupo and Jones are considered late round prospects and both halve no known character issues.

  • Fangupo looks like an interesting prospect. I thought he looked good in his combine drills. I don’t recall the details, but I know Fangupo did play at USC, before transferring to BYU. The only knock against him, is his age (27), and may be part of the reason why he’s not graded higher.

Fangupo sounds like a kid who needs NFL coaching to improve his technique, who better than coach Mitchell. May turn out to be a great value pick as project. Jeremy Jones sounds like a Steelers CB and great 7th round pick.

he xfer’d for safety reasons supposedly, and I absolutely think he would be great for the Steelers. He absolutely manhandled Bobby Massie in that game when he lined up over him. LOL.

Hey with a 6th round pick and 3 7th rounder we need to dig deep and do a lot of research to find some value. I think jones has a better chance to be a Steeler than Fangupo. We should be selcting a NT withing the first 4 rounds of the Draft, I would see no reason to add another one late. DB though is different while I believe we could drop a 1st round pick on someone like Stephen Gilmore if he is there i doubt we do. I list our needs as OG, NT, ILB. So a DB and a CB in the late rounds is quite possible.
