Ben Roethlisberger To Receive Bachelor\’s Of Science Degree Sunday

Peter King of Sports Illustrated reported via Twitter on Saturday that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has finished up his Bachelor\’s of Science degree in Education from Miami (Ohio) University and will walk with the graduates on Sunday. Roethlisberger left college after the 2003 season to enter the 2004 NFL draft and was selected by the Steelers with the 11th overall pick in the first round.

King took quite a bit of abuse on Twitter for congratulating Roethlisberger on his efforts and defended him by saying that the Steelers quarterback was never charged or convicted for two separate sexual assault allegations. He stated that Roethlisberger had served his four game ban handed down to him by the league in 2010, and by all accounts has been a standup guy since.

Roethlisberger has been constantly active for several years with his own foundation that bears his own name. The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation has provided several grants for K-9 dogs and their training to police and fire departments all over the country and those actions very rarely get media coverage outside of the city that he helps.

Roethlisberger married Ashley Harlan, a physician\’s assistant from New Castle, Pennsylvania last July and he is heading to Ireland and Scotland next month, where he will play some of the finest and most difficult courses in the world to mentally prepare himself for the upcoming season.

Kudos to Roethlisberger for getting his degree and double kudos to King for setting the facts straight on Twitter.

I am, I'm me. 40 something, retired and a life long Steelers fan.

yup, as all college graduates follow an age long tradition, Big Ben and family will be macking at Olive Garden or Appleby’s with free dessert.. nice.

Congrats Ben. You have my admiration for finishing college!

Far be it from me to criticize anyone in the NFL for taking a much needed vacation but I fail to see how playing golf can prepare Big Ben for the up coming season…….unless he he studies the playbook in between holes????

After he hangs up his cleats, Ben is going to be one hell of a PE teacher! If he’s really lucky, maybe they’ll let him coach the football team.

  • Kelly Smith

Yeah pal, you’re a real comedian… I almost laughed, Some new material might be on your “To do” list!

  • Kelly Smith

Not necessarily a Physical Education teacher, but he will definitely have something to fall back on… Kudos to you Ben!

Ben has a negative image to overcome most people around the country and quite a few Steelers fans think he’s a bad guy. The worst is a guy named Florio, who by all accounts is a pretty nasty dude

  • Bobbywilkerson

Thanks Peter King for being fair to Ben.

Miami of Ohio is the “Cradle” of big, tough, dumb looking, WINNING coaches! There was a solid strategy behind getting the degree at this point. Ben will be working on the Play Book alright!; instead of studying, he will be writing one for his next career!

    Good job BEN!

There was no release of information regarding any DNA samples requested of Roethlisberger or whether his DNA was found on the body of the woman as evidence of sexual contact either by force or otherwise. Without these tests being conducted it is inconclusive as to whether he did rape the woman or not and he has not defended himself at all in any statement other than a denial of the case and evidence.

Will Rapistberger still have the NFL behind in after he retires…Maybe he should get a law degree, that may be beneficial, not sure if I would want him as my daughter PE director

I don’t mean to be the grammar police, but if your going to come on a Steeler site and troll, you better have all your I’s dotted and T’s crossed.

Obviously you cut and pasted the first paragraph from the link you provided because your last attempt at a sentence is shameful. Shameful both in it’s content and grammar. I think, (and I hate to try and get into a mind of a troll), but I think you were try to type “the NFL behind HIM after he retires” and “my DAUGHTER’S PE director”.

Either way Pita bread, your trolling ways makes you irrelevant to myself and all other Steeler fans. BTW, irrelevant means inconsequential, unimportant, garbage…got it puppy?

  • Grammar Troll

…your trolling ways MAKE you irrelevant…

It has annoyed me that Gus Johnson calls Ben “the Miami Ohio grad”, or something like that, in Madden 12. Now, he’s finally right.

    Good job, Ben!
