The Terrible Podcast – Draft Pick Kelvin Beachum & Jon Linder Of WQAM Interviews Episode

Steelers PodcastSeason 2, Episode 104 of The Terrible Podcast is up and David Todd and I take a look first at the 2012 rookie pool for the Pittsburgh Steelers as it relates to the overall salary cap and the first contract for David DeCastro.

We move on to discuss the Rosetta Stone comment made in regard to the new playbook by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on Monday. It was clearly a little fun jab he made and we are sure everything will get hammered out when the team gets together this upcoming weekend for the mini-camp.

David and I then turn our attention to look at how the other teams drafted in the AFC North and give a quick overview of the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens drafts this past weekend.

In part two of the podcast is my interview with Steelers 7th round draft pick Kelvin Beachum Jr. out of SMU. We discuss what draft day was like for him in Texas and how his pre draft visit to Pittsburgh went. Kelvin tells me what the Steeler organization means to him and how he is willing to do whatever it takes to make the 53 man roster this year. Kelvin also fills us in on his life off the football field and how he is making a difference back home. I really enjoyed talking to Kelvin and wish him nothing but the best of luck. Make sure you are following him on Twitter at @KelvinBeachumJr as well.

The third and final part of the show features my interview I had on Sunday with Jon Linder of WQAM in Miami. Linder is a Steelers fan and has covered the University of Miami program for some time now. He gives us the scoop on 3rd round draft pick Sean Spence and also gives his thoughts on the Steelers draft as a whole. Make sure you are following Jon on Twitter at @LinderWQAM in addition.

Great Interview with a very excited kid…would love to hear some of UDFA in interviews at some point, no rush obviously, but would be very insightful into the mindset of some of these younger players

I just started following Steelers Depot post-Denver playoff loss and am really looking forward to training camp and in-season Terrible Podcasts, except post Steelers loss.

Beachum has already been one of my favorite late round picks. I think after a year on the practice squad learning to be a guard that he will be a contributor for the Steelers. Great kid with awesome potential.

What a great kid. all the best to him.

Excellent interview. Linder brought up a great point about pairing Rainey up with another young player, who can teach him how to be a pro. Obviously, Rainey can lean on Pouncey, but it would also be great to see Antonio Brown take him under his wing. Both Brown and Rainey had it very tough in their youth. Brown is obviously a high character guy, and he has also walked in Rainey’s shoes.

I met Kelvin when he was doing some work for SMU rec sports this past spring. This kid is even nicer and more polite than you can imagine. Smart, very smart! 3 year captain of the team at SMU. That says it all doesn’t it. If character counts, this is your man.
