Willie Colon Interview With Teresa Varley Concerning Move To Left Guard

Teresa Varley sat down with Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Willie Colon for interview to discuss his move from right tackle to left guard that was publicly announced today in a report by Mike Prisuta. Colon talked about how he is very open to making the move and how he is glad that the decision was made as early as it was to give him time to adapt to the position. Colon told Varley he was notified about the position switch the day after the Steelers drafted David DeCastro in the first round of the 2012 draft last month. You can listen to the audio from the interview below.

Gilbert at Tackle and Foster at Tackle? Is that who’s projected to be the Tackles?

  • RW

They’ll likely bring Starks back at LT for 2 years and let Adams sit and learn from him for one year while serving as the swing tackle. Starks is projected to be fully recovered from the ACL by the start of/midway through training camp.

More importantly than Colon being notified the day after DeCastro was taken, he said the coaches called him immediately after Adams was selected. They must be intending for Adams to start at one of the T spots.

Sure seems like our line for next season will be Starks, Colon, Pouncey, DeCastro, Gilbert with Adams being groomed for the future. Sounds like a very, very solid O-line to me next season and moving forward.

Adams lacks the strength to play RT and at LT he needs to develop more before he is starter material. If Adams sees more than 100 snaps on offense this season it will only be because of injury in my opinion.

  • Right. The guy who is recovering from major knee surgery, and doesn’t have a contract, seems the most likely to be the starter at LT.

At the 0:25 mark, he says “I’m in between Pouncey and […]. So the verbiage and how to work with those guys, I’m learning.” Did he not name the LT or was it redacted? Either way, does the phrase “those guys” indicate the Steelers have a good idea of who they want to start at LT, and that it is not as open/mysterious as it seems on the outside?
